AW first day of school

A process that began just about a year ago is now coming to fruition. ?It was about this time last year that H and I spent a few weeks discussing what I could do with my life rather than stagnate in Japan. ?So, months of planning, applying to school, applying to the AF, fighting the AF, fighting them again, moving, I'm ready to begin. ?And I'm just a little bit nervous. ?This is kind of a big, and expensive, step to be going back to school again to attempt a new career. ?I'm supposed to wonder if I'm crazy, right? ?That's a good sign.

  • Good luck and have fun!
  • Good luck, Sibil! I think it's great what you're doing, and being nervous is totally natural. Be sure to check back in and let us know how it goes.
  • GL!!! Midwifery?

  • What are you going to school for? I don't miss being without an income, but I do miss school. I love school. I'm such a nerd.

    Good luck!

  • I was without income in Japan anyway, and I would have been for another 2 years if I'd stayed. ?Then who would hire me with a nearly 4 year break in working history? (the extra year comes from the year before wemoved to Japan when we were told, for the entire year, we'd move "next month" so I didn't search for employment.) ?I am definitely not cut out to not work, so I was tortured and couldn't see doing it one second longer.

I'm not doing midwifery yet. ?I decided that it would be best to get the general bachelors in nursing first, since that takes just over a year. ?Any midwifery program would have been about 3. ?I'll will go back for a midwifery/nurse practitioner degree, but when depends on H's schedule and where in the world (literally) we may be living.?

  • Good luck!! I don't think it's crazy at all. I might pick your brain about your experience at some point because I am thinking about doing something similar in the not too distant future... going back to school for a BSN and maybe building on that later on.?
  • GL! that sounds interesting! I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
  • Awesome!  this is going to be great for you!  It's totally normal to have some nerves when you are starting something completely new.

Fwiw, my dad went back to college at 42 and completely changed careers from plumbing to nursing.  Best decision he ever made, he says, but I know it was daunting to do so at his age.  You're not crazy, you're normal.  And you'll be great!

  • Good luck! What an exciting change!
