Re: Poll: Do you go to church?

  • Um, that would be an affirmative for this girl. Stick out tongue

We're Lutheran, but my best advice if you're curious about local churches is to just start exploring by visiting Sunday services.  Is there anything in particular you're hoping to find/would like in a church?

  • We go usually weekly, although for example, in between Thanksgiving-Christmas we were only there twice due to a lot of traveling and other things going on.

It took us a year and a half after officially moving to MD ( I was here for school) to find a church that we liked. ?

  • ThePastor'sWife goes to church weekly???  Who would have thought?  Surprise

    I know, right? Wink

  • Yes! ?We go to NewSong Fellowship in Lancaster!
  • Growing up in NJ I went to church with my Grandmother.  I went back to visit her and went to church and began to miss it, also I would like the babies to be raised in a church setting.  I have been to one church here and it is where I know a lot of people but the minister completely turns me off and I don't think I would like going to see him.  DH does not want to go and I feel weird just walking into a church by myself.  I guess I just need to buck up and start trying to find one if it is that important to me.

I do not want a stuffy church where you are judged by all the people.  I feel that is how it was by the church that I had went to visit in this area.  I am Methodist by the way.

  • I'm not sure where you live, but I can say friends of mine go to Linglestown Life off the square in Linglestown, and love it!!!  I have been there a few times and have enjoyed it.  They have a great contemporary service.  There are many young members with children as well.   Oh and this is a Methodist church.   Let me know if you would like more info!
  • We've been talking about trying to find a church too.  Cutesguy and I actually met at church (I know, we're nerds), but the church has since gone through some big changes and we don't feel like we really belong there anymore.  We stopped going last spring.

What we want is a place that has an active group that would focus on doing service projects within the local community - we don't care as much about the music styles and that kind of thing.

  • No.  My family never went to church except when we went to my grandmother's.  I did go to bible camp a couple of years (at my grandmother's request), and once in awhile I would go to church with friends from school.  It never seemed to fit for me.  I don't believe in a higher power.

If we ever have a child and DH wants to take him/her to church, thats fine with me, although I doubt he will.  Once the kid is old enough, he/she can make his own decisions regarding religion.

  • DH and I met in Sunday School at the church where we're currently members.  The regular Sunday services don't fit for us right now (meaning we haven't attended regularly since high school), but we do attend occasionally throughout the year and at holidays.

But we get involved in a lot of church stuff outside of Sunday Services.  I'm the chair of a Capital Campaign to raise lots of money for church renovations and additions, and we actively participate in/coordinate many church fundraisers.

I imagine that once the baby gets older we'll start attending more regularly, but I feel comfortable with our church relationship now.  For us, sitting in the pews every Sunday isn't as important as our personal commitments and the way we lead our lives.

If you don't mind me asking, who do you know that goes there?  I grew up at Linglestown Life and got married there this past May.... since I live in Dover I dont make it up there on Sundays, but I do childcare in the nursery most Thursdays.

  • We go to Zion United Methodist on Carlisle Road in York and have been going there for about 4 years. They have traditional and contemporary services. Lots of kids there.  I like it pretty well.
