Sometimes I really don't get facebook

I know we talk about this relatively often, but it just happened to me so I have to vent.

I just got a friend request from someone I'm absolutely certain I never said a single word to in high school. Now, to be fair, a decent part of that was my tiny attitude that thought I was way out of his league, but still...

Re: Sometimes I really don't get facebook

  • I have gotten a few of those.  My rule is that if I can't remember any conversations with the person, I ignore the friend request.

I would like for Facebook to get rid of the "People You May Know" feature.  I think that is what is really causing the problem...if you pop up every day there, some people can't control themselves and just hit "friend."  Drives me nuts.

  • One girl who I'm not even sure I ever had a class with has sent me five, yes, FIVE invitations.  I keep turning them down, she keeps sending them.  Apparently if you just leave the friend request open, they can't resend it, but I feel weird never answering them.
  • meh. I have lots of friends from back in HS who I wastn FRIENDS with, but still nice to see what tehy are up to etc. I dont have a problem with the random requests.

  • My biggest pet peeve about facebook is when people try to get you to do stuff for them.  I'm friends with an old roommate (we didn't part well-freshman year) who manages a band now.  She's always trying to get me to do stuff for her band; come to their shows, vote for them to win contests, etc.  Look, lady.  You never talk to me, ask me about my life, etc., and you want me to do something for your bland crappy band?  No.  We both want to snoop into what the other is doing, great.  But don't only contact me when you want something.

  • I have gotten two over the past week from people I have never met. ?They are friends with some people I knew in high school, but I have no idea who these people are. ?I agree, the "people you might know" feature needs to go away.
  • My high school was so small that you literally couldn't help but talk to everyone.  I do have a problem with people whom I have met once through friends and they add you on FB.  Um, folks,  I.don't.know.you.
  • The worst one I got was from a girl I went to college with. I thought I remembered who she was, so I accepted. (I now realize she lived on the same floor with some people I was friends with. We probably said hi to each other about three times.) I have my phone number on facebook, since I'm generally only FB friends with people I know. Well, about three days after I accept her friend request, I get a call from her asking if I'm interested in investing in her business. WTF?! I really need to do a FB friend purge.

  • I have had the same thing happen to me...friend request from someone from HS that I had NO interaction with in HS. Very strange. At first I approved such requests b/c I wasn't sure of facebook etiquette but now I'm just "ignoring" them. If we have never talked, ever, why again should we be facebook friends?
  • I've ignored a few invites from old HS people whom I was sure never knew I even existed in HS.

  • This is why I hate facebook, especially over myspace.  The only reason I want an account is so I can snoop into what other people are doing; I don't want them knowing what I'm up to!  Sucks that you have to be friends on facebook to see anything good!
