Gift ideas for pg friend

A friend at work is newly pregnant and I want to get her a gift.  This is her first and she doesn't have friends with children so I thought I would get her some books to help her figure out what she will need, what to eat, etc...  She has the What to Expect book.  Moms and moms-to-be - what are the books that you really like?  Any other gifts that you really liked?

Re: Gift ideas for pg friend

  • A pregnancy journal might be a good idea.  I had one and I enjoyed writing down stuff in it.
  • To be honest, I'd shy away from books.  I got one from my doctor, one from my mom, one from my SIL and I wanted WTEWYE.  The only ones I really read are WTE and the pregnancy day-by-day book my mom got me.  They all really say the same thing.  Oh, and that info is also repeated by the weekly e-mails I get from babycenter.com.

So for me, the preference would be any of the following:

    • restaurant, take-out or Sheetz GC (I soooo rarely felt like cooking during the first tri, since the uncooked ingredients made me nauseous)
    • bella band (so it's onhand for when it's needed)
    • baby clothes that fit our style (we got a few PSU onesies from friends, and I got DH a baby t-shirt for his NFL team)

I haven't gotten one, but maybe also a subscription to a pregnancy or baby magazine?

    Good luck!

  • I like "Your Pregnancy Week by Week" because it's not overwhelming and I can easily skip any sections that have nothing to do with me.  I also have a belly book to keep weekly belly pics and write down lots of information.  I absolutely love it.  I think I found it at Barnes and Noble.  A gift card to Motherhood Maternity would be a big hit too.
  • what about a massge?  A friend of mine is trained to do pre-natal massage.  I think she has to wait until she's in her 2nd trimester to have it done.  Let me know and i can give you her info.

I think that it is a great idea that you want to get something for your friend but I agree... I got 3 copies of WTEWYE  I would stay away from books....

GC for Motherhood maternity or even Target carries Maternity clothing.  Take her out for lunch.  I also like the onsie idea if she has a favorite team.

I know Babies R Us and Motherhood Maternity have lotions and such as well as nutrition bars geared to a pregnant woman, maybe make up a gift basket for her.   There are these things called Preggie Pops which really helped me with morning sickness, little things like this may be nice

  • Oooh!  Sarah reminded me of my favorite gift from my DH: it was a gift set of all-natural, organic pamper-you kind of stuff.  Anti-nausea chap stick, a really good-smelling container of foot massage cream, stretch-mark cream and bath salts.
  • I second the Motherhood Maternity gift card! ?There is nothing better than going to the mall and actually being able to buy maternity clothes that fit and look good and are in style. ?A friend bought me one and it was great! ?OR Old Navy, because they have really nice maternity clothing too taht is stylish.
  • Denise, you're so sweet.  I like the idea of a pregnancy journal.  I also loved Burts Bees belly butter... *knock on wood*,  I haven't had an itchy belly all winter or stretch marks on my belly and my skin is STRETCHED.  Another gift I look forward to using is one of those 'premade' Hallmark scrap books.  I know that I will not have much time to stamp/scrapbook so I think this will be really nice to have.

    Gift cards

If you really want to get her a book, the only one I read cover to cover at this stage is the Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy.  Informative and a bit irreverant, but the easiest one to relate to, because it's not so medical.

A gift basket from Bath and Bodyworks is always nice.
