(#) Weds check-in

How's everyone doing?  My week has been a little nutty, but I'm hanging in, eating-wise.  Things are fitting better this week, which is nice, and that was reflected on the scale.  I had lost four pounds before Christmas, then gained them back, then am back to where I was.  So, yay!

I'm doing well on exercise.  I walked two miles on Monday, then swam yesterday. My friend got me a two-week pass to her gym, so I'm going tonight.

Not sure about food... I need to get to the store and plan some menus for this week.

Re: (#) Weds check-in

  • apparently the scale lied last week and I am really up 8 pounds from pre-holidays. BOO! So goal is 13.

I went to the gym this mornign to run (yay). Bfast: eggs, coffee. Lunch: leftover Lamb chili. Dinner: Salmon, asparagus, salad.

  • Yay soprano, congrats on dropping your xmas weight!

Had a really good run last night, but I am still paranoid about getting shin splints. C25K gives me a day off today, so I'll either hit up a class at the gym or hop on the elliptical. I'm getting to work earlier, and it's been really busy, so I'm a lot more tired these days and am tempted to skip it. But I shall not!

  • I'm beginning to think that weight loss with breast feeding is a big lie. Or it is for me at least. I didn't expect any miracles, but I thought it would help eat up some extra padding over time. Instead, I feel like it's making my body cling to fat for dear life. Really, I'm using an extra 300-500 calories a day? You could have fooled me.

I'm starting to cut out higher calorie stuff I've been eating for years without trouble. Bye bye cheese, nuts, whole milk yogurt, etc. For exercise I've been working on the belly (muscles are so out of whack) and going out for more walks but that's not going to cut it. I'm thinking of getting an elliptical machine since that's the one thing I like at gyms. If it lasts for 2 yrs that's cheaper than a membership and/or new clothes for spring.

  • I wound up skipping kickbox class last night because it's so f-ing cold outside. I've just decided to skip swimming and kickbox class this week. I cannot bring myself to leave the apartment early or to leave again once I'm in for the night. But I did get up and work out on the elliptical. The H and I did it together. Smile Saturday it's supposed to be 21, so I will venture back out into the world for swimming then.

Also I wanted to share a recipe that we made last night. Rachael Ray's vegetarian chili was really good. We added an extra jalapeno and one chipotle in adobo for some extra heat. The recipe says it makes 4 servings, so made without the beer, it's 7 WW points for 1/4 of the chili. We only had 1-cup servings, so it actually made 5 1/2 of those, making it about 5 WW points. Very filling and very tasty! We are food snobs, so I feel like I should hate Rachael Ray, but we have really enjoyed everything of hers that we've made.

Today's menu: granola, Carnation instant breakfast, clementine and cherries for breakfast; whole wheat cheese ravioli with tomato sauce and carrots for lunch; snack of yogurt with blueberries; dinner of homemade pizza with roasted red peppers, tomatoes, and cheese with a salad.

  • I did my first couch to 5k workout this morning.  It really wasn't bad at all.  I am one of the most out of shape people ever, and I found it quite manageable, but it still felt like I got a good work out in.  I couldn't believe how fast the time went.  I finished about 8 blocks from my house, so I had an extra ten minutes at the end of walking.  My plan is to do that every other day, and then try to go walking or other exercise on the other days.

Today's an easy food day...leftover chili for lunch, leftover pot roast for dinner.  I always need a little something sweet after a meal, so I've been eating a lot of dried fruit...I'll have a couple dried apricots of figs after a meal instead of cookies or a piece of chocolate.  It's working out well.

  • Nice job, everyone!!

I'm having a fat day, but for no good reason.  Then I went to to the bathroom, and I thought I looked fine, so I'm now feeling a bit better.  No workout last night, I was too tired.  But my Wii Fit arrived today, so I'm totally doing that tonight!!  Eating wise I've been fine, except for my one slip up on Sunday.

B: Life cereal with my new fave guilty pleasure 2% milk (I want to drink a glass by itself like every day.  No idea why).

L: Leftover casserole from last night

D: No idea!!  Hoping DH will be fine with me going to Chipotle.

Excellent... glad to hear your first day was okay. Keep it up!

  • Thanks!  Have you been using a podcast?  A lot of the ones online were using Limewire, which freezes my ancient computer.  But I found a few free ones on iTunes, and started with this Chubby Jones one, that was really good.  The music was sort of Depeche-Mode-ish...I don't know how to describe it...more fun than techno, but not quite pop or dance.  I enjoyed it.

I've been using this guy's podcasts.

They're okay, but get repetitive, so I'd definitely be interested in trying others.
