throwing money away

WHY are trash cans so expensive?!? Seriously, it's just mind boggling. For the last year, DH & I have just been hanging trash bags on a hook in the pantry simply because we cannot find a lager one under $50 that's not an outdoor can. They all have lasers and sensors and fancy ridiculousness! Batteries for a trash can? Come ON! There are multitudes of tiny bathroom size cans, but living in a small apartment makes having 10 little cans redundant and annoying to empty all the time. I just couldn't put a $100 trash can on our wedding registry, who would WANT to get you that as a wedding gift anyway?! Gah!

Re: throwing money away

  • *Confession- DH got me a Simple Human trash can for Christmas and it was my favorite gift ever Embarrassed  It wasn't the $100 size, but it was still way more than I would ever pay for a trashcan if I was buying it myself. No one in my family understood why I was so happy to get a trashcan as a gift Stick out tongue  I love it. It was worth every penny, although I still don't think I would spend my own money on it.  Before the Simple Human goodness, we had something like this from BBB. Did the trick!  http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=111933&RN=1020&

Ditto...my DH got me a set that HD had for $75 because we had a knock off from Target or wherever and it kept breaking.  I love our SH and it was totally worth the $75.  I love the bag keeper and the fact that it traps the smells in the can.  Ours came with a little mini size one that I use in our bathroom too.

I have one for the bathroom too :)  That one I did buy myself but it was only $20. I needed something with lid to keep my trash-loving dog out.

  • We just have to cheap ole Rubbermaid flip top ones. As for the pups...it was the cat in our case, we ended up putting it on the porch or in a cabinet.

We have this that has a locking handle to keep pets out. ?It is $40 and then cut one of the million 20% off coupons so it comes to $32. ?I LOVE this trash can. ?It's nice and compact, works well and locks, oh, and regular tall trash bags fit in it perfectly.?

  • We used gift cards from our wedding to buy our Simple Human and it may sound strange to say that you love a trash can but I do.  I REALLY keeps the smells in and a bonus that the bag doesn't show.  Actually, Target had some on clearance so I bought one for our nursery for $35.

  • I think you have discovered the cult of the trash can!  I have to admit that I love our trash can too.  My mom gave me a Simple Human trashcan for our kitchen as a b-day present and even DH likes it.  And everyone I know who has one does use the word love when talking about their trash can.
  • We have the non-stainless Simple Human and it's great too.  I love Simple Human and it's made me a believer in them.

  • We also have a Simple Human trash can that I LOVE!  I think it was well worth the money.
  • I would love a Simple Human but I can't stomach the price tag.

  • lol you ladies crack me up! I'll have to look into this simple human thing, but no promises I'll jump on the expensive trash can band wagon!
  • Walmart - Rubbermaid - $14.95.  It's worked for us for 2 years! :)
  • I've been looking for a new trash can since we finished our kitchen remodel at the end of the Summer and had no luck finding what I wanted...white, a secure lid, and possibly something w/ a pedal.  I really wanted a Simple Human but was only having luck finding them in SS.  So a big thanks to whoever posted the link to that white plastic Simple Human - I need that trash can!
