? about Virtua and delivering

It seems like a lot of you want or have delivered at Virtua.  I was just wondering the reasoning behind that.  Right now I am going to a OB/GYN associated with Cooper and since we want to start TTC in the summer/fall I want to make sure I start going to the OB now before we start.

  • Yes I do and so far I really like them.  However, my insurance and everything changed so I am just seeing my other options before scheduling an appt.

  • for me.. there were a couple of reasons...  it's a level 3 NICU, my high risk doctor is placed right in the hosptial, and it's a hospital that has a good reputation as a baby hospital.

  • imagepumpkinhead06:

     it's a level 3 NICU

This says it all for me...you never expect something to go wrong but if it does, i would rather have the experienced high risk/nicu care right in the hospital rather then wasteing time transporting an infant to somewhere else...

  • For me it was initially just becuase it's the hospital my doc's practice is associated with, but since then I've only known people to have good experiences there, including with the NICU. It does have a reputation as a "baby factory" because they deliver so many babies there, but I think that can only be a good thing.  The more experience the better, KWIM?

ditto - i didn't know much about it before, but having delivered there recently, they are great. On top of them having a great NICU, they have pediatric surgeons right on sight if there was an issue

  • I use Garden State and ended up at Virtua Voorhees because that's their hospital.  I hired a doula, (labor assistant), who was amazing.  I had a natural birth.  The staff tried to be hands off, but they caused me much undue stress.  I found several of the nurses to be rather demeaning especially the triage nurse, who wanted to send me home. I convinced the doctor that I was, and delivered 3 hours later. In recovery I had half and half good and bad nurses. The bathroom was ridiculously small to the point where it was barely functional, however I hear they are building new rooms. I couldn't sit upright on the toilet becuase things were in the way.  I was a single occupant in a double room however I can't imagine if there were 2 of us in there. I never slept until I got home.  What annoyed me the most was having to make multiple requests to get a new bag of pads as I'm bleeding all over my bed (took hours).  Some of my friends say I must have just had an odd experience becuase I delievered over the holiday weekend.  I don't intend to go back. However if you are high risk, I think it's probably the place to be.

Do some research and go where you feel comfortable. You'll hear bad stories from everywhere.  There's so much that can go wrong.  Focus on what's good about the place.
