Here are old pictures of the room:
We are considering a new couch, loveseat, and recliner in this style by La Z Boy.
But instead of leather, we are thinking chocolate brown microfiber for the couch and loveseat and a lighter microfiber for the recliner.
These are the colors, all are on the same fabric card and have a very slight pattern:
Buckwheat (which does not show up very well on the screen) or Brown Sugar
What do you think of the colors or the furniture itself?
Re: XP Living room furniture thoughts?
I have almost no sense of style, so take this for what it's worth
I don't care for the style of the sofa. There's just something about all the squares that I don't care for. I do think it would look a lot better in microfiber and it looks like it would be super comfy.
Other than that I think it would be nice! I love microfiber and recliner sofas are great. DH's parents have them and I originally wanted to get recliner sofas when we got new furniture. We ended up finding such a good deal on a secional that we couldn't pass it up but DH and I fight over the chaise part, so it would have been nice to have two recliners
Of the colors, I like the brown sugar best but I think the chocolate would look best in that room. It seems like it would give the best contrast.
Thanks pookie. The pattern of the couch is what bothers me too. We like reclining for the comfort and it's difficult to find comfort for both of uswhen I'm 5'5'' and DH is 6'7''. The couch looks much more pronounced in leather too, but I know we want fabric.
Hi Stacey! I'm sorry but I don't really care for it either...I'm not a big fan of all of the tufting that is going on. I do understand about the importance of reclining...DH and I have a big ottoman that we use for reclining on our couch and he is constantly picking on me because I need to keep it so close to the couch so that my legs will reach...and I am 5'3" and he's 5'11" ish...so not nearly the height difference between you and YH.
Good luck though!!
DH and I have a similar problem with the height difference so I know how it can be a pain
What about one of these:

They're all pretty basic styles, but they look comfy! The seat measurments are all similar to the one you posted although I don't really know how much difference an inch or two makes. I didn't check out the fabric options for any of them, but you could get away with almost anything in that room.
Thanks for the help pookie! We have tried Larson and Dreamtime before and Larson was actually second on our list. The difficulty is the comfort and the fact that they hit us so differently. Even my mom went with us to Wolf's and La Z Boy stores and thought that the Gibson was the most comfortable.
Because of the length of DH's long legs, we can't get one that reclines and has the little black handle as opposed to the full brown handle, they have a different mechanism and won't stay up when he reclines.
We'll give them all more of a try though and see if new styles come out this year. It's amazing too the difference of the one we like in leather and fabric.
And fabric isn't a concern because you can get any fabric on any couch.
We're not 100% La Z Boy, but we have liked them the best and they seem to hold up very well. My mom has had other brands of recliners and they didn't seem to last as long as the La Z Boy.
We originally were considering sections vs. reclining pieces, but since we will probably be wanting to take this furniture to the next house, we weren't sure what the space would be so 3 separate seem to be the easiest to configure to any room.
We have a couch and ottomon now, but would love to both be able to share the couch a little easier.
The black handle thing is crazy, but every store we went to confirmed it by telling us that only certain models would work for him with his height and sure enough, the reclining part would go down on the black handle ones.
I know we can find a fabric that will make us happy but finding a piece for the comfort and for the look has been very challenging. I'm not sold on the look of the Gibson and that's why I asked, but we do think it has been very comfortable in every store we've tried.
My other thing is color...where IS the color? Were you going for a totally neutral room? Are there items in their that do have lots of color a brighter fabric may clash with? I personally just think that if you have a neutral floor, wood, and a neutral wall,beige.. you need color somewhere or it all just blends together not really saying anything. But then I'm a color girl. I want an orange leather couch for our game room in our next house. The down stairs will be mainly brown and beige with strong shots of orange, red, blue & green. All our accessories in the kitchen...are orange. I mean you could keep the furniture neutral and then due a flashy throw rug for "warmth" some throw pillows and maybe a throw/blanket. It's really very "safe" in color choice to keep all beige/brown.
The eternal question- style or comfort
Hopefully you'll find something else so that you don't have to choose. Personally, if it was time to buy and that was the most comfortable option, I'd get it. You'll spend more time sitting on it than looking at it. You could always throw a blanket over the back of it when company comes so the squares aren't as noticeable.
I'm 5'5" and DH is 6'4", so we aren't as extreme as you and your DH, but we've had some problems agreeing on furniture before. Fortunately, we happened upon a sectional that we both really liked the style of and we both though thought was comfortable. As it turned out, even in our relatively large living room, it's still doesn't fit quite right so three separate pieces is definitely the safe way to go.
Thanks for talking about this with me today. You're right, it's the age old problem. Hopefully we'll find a good match for both. I haven't given up on the sectional completely but it doesn't seem the smartest option for us currently. I appreciate it!
You can still see the pattern in the fabric, this is part of the loveseat.
I saw your post on D&R but figured I would respond here just in case you dont go back to the OP.
Personally I don't care for it. I like the color options particularly the chocolate and brown sugar. Brown sugar reminds me a lot of our microfiber loveseat. I think either of those choices would look great with your Bagel walls.
I just don't care for all the tufted sections. In general from looking at the La Z Boy web site it seems like a lot of their stuff still has that 80's leather poofy look going on.
That's just my opinion though...sometimes even from pictures its hard to get a true sense of an item. If it was me though I would keep looking until you find something you both truly love that will meet your needs.
Oh and by the way I happen to think that all beige and brown rooms can be very striking and don't necessarily need bold colors to make a statement
Oh wait...that desribes my house...LOL.
Thanks Jen! I appreciate the color advice. I'm pretty sold that we're going to use some chocolate brown but I'm not sure of the other color. I think 3 of the same might be too much, what do you think? I don't like colored furniture, I want to add only accessories that have any color so that I can change the room more with them but not have to change large pieces. I know that I prefer neutral furniture and I'm fine with that. You know I love the way your house is too.
It's much better in microfiber. It might be a little traditional for my tastes, but the comfy could make up for that.
Big purchases are hard to make aren't they? I hope that you love whatever you get for years to come.
