Has anyone seen Marley and Me yet?

Is it as sad as the book?  I want to see it, but then again, I don't.  I don't want to be a bawling mess in the movie theater.  The last time that happened was when I saw The Passion of the Christ.  Yeesh!

Re: Has anyone seen Marley and Me yet?

  • I never read the book so I don't know how similar they are. But I did see the movie and it is pretty sad. I got teary-eyed but that was about it. My sister cried though. It is a cute movie and is worth seeing, and if you do cry, I'm sure you won't be the only one!
  • I saw it, but didn't read the book...I borrowed it from a family member w/ the intentions of reading it first, but never got around to it so I can't compare.  With that said, I loved the movie!  It was very cute, and sad.  I definitely teared up and DH even said he was close to shedding a tear himself!  I heard lots of sniffles around me though so it affected everyone the same.  I wouldn't worry about being the only one crying :)
  • I didn't read the book either, but I did quietly sob through the last half hour of the movie!  DH scrambled for a tissue too.  The people around us were definitely crying.  An older couple in front of us were both still upset when the lights finally came up and told us that they had had a yellow lab and that  you don't know what it's like until you go through it.  I've also been though the loss of my family dog - it hits home!

    But it's a great movie!

  • It's a great movie, but be prepared to cry. I read the book, and the movie was just as good although I wish they would have included a few parts that they skipped over (the book ending definitely would have helped me if that was included) and it took a little time to get used to Owen Wilson playing the main part. He did a good job, and by the end he was fit for it.

That being said, I think I was more of a mess due to losing our family chocolate lab in May. There were WAY too many similarities and reminders. Even DH was a little choked up knowing our dog for the nine years that he did. Thank goodness we had Sadie to come home to. I called my parents and told them not to see it in the theaters. I think it would be too hard on them.

It's worth it in my opinion if you go and see it! : )?

  • never read the book, but you'll need a whole box of tissues.  i went to see it, not knowing that the dog dies, and i (along with DH and the rest of the audience) were all bawling like babies.  that being said, it was a great movie (except for the ending, of course...)!
