low beta level ?

I'm new to this whole thing and was hoping to get some input from your experiences.....
I took a HPT 2 days ago (15 DPO) and was neg.  then I took one this morning and got a BFP (17 DPO).  I called my ob to make an appt to confirm the pregnancy and bc I have been spotting this past week (very light pink only when I wipe - sorry TMI!).  they told be to go over to the ER and they can very quickly take blood and do tests it would take the OB office 3 days to do.  When my beta count came back is was 12.  They said I was most likely having a miscarraige.

So at 15 DOP i was neg and 17 DPO i was positve.....could my beta be so low only because it's early on?  should I have any hope for this to come out good?anyone have any experience like this?

Re: low beta level ?

  • well it is possible that you had a late implantation, but unfortunately it does sound like you could be having a miscarriage, but I'm not a doctor.

I have seen many girls on the TTTC board with low betas early on and have a successful pregnancy.

  • Are you definite of the day that you O'd?
  • I have to agree that a hcg of 12 isn't very promising if you truely are 17dpo..Are you sure of the day you oed?!? Is it possible that you could have oed later then you thought?!?

Are they doing a repeat beta? You should atleast see if they double..i have seen girls with low betas that keep doubling and they end up fine..

Please keep us posted, i am sorry you have to deal with this...

  • FF told me when I O'd on 12/30- so i'm going by that.

I'm getting another blood test next week.  This sucks!  thanks for the input though!

  • It could be possible that you ovulated later than you expected and implantation just happened (hence the negative test just two days ago).  I think what counts with beta is that it doubles (don't know the time frame exactly, but I think its every 48 hours).  I will pray that everything turns out well for you.
  • Can you share your FF chart?

Try to keep a positive attitude until you have your next beta drawn and see if it doubles.  There is always a chance that FF is wrong and that its implatation spotting.  I think its a good sign that the test was negative two days ago and was positive this morning and not the reverse.

  • I don't have any more advice than what the other ladies have said, I just wanted to say that I will be thinking of you and hoping for the best.
  • I don't know how to link my chart - i hope this works:

  • ok, that didn't work ....maybe this will

  • Since FF gave you dotted lines instead of solid red crosshairs, it is not positive that you O'd on the day that it told you, you might have ovulated later (maybe CD 20,21 or 22?).

I hope that you do not worry too much this weekend.  I know its hard not too.  Please keep us posted when you get your beta retested.  I'll be praying for you and your baby.
