Fight or Flight

How many have experienced this?  I believe I just experienced my first panic attack.  It has to do with the job fair I went to today....long story.
And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this Rock I will build my Church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it.

Re: Fight or Flight

  • Oh no!  I'm sorry to hear that.  I haven't, but I have friends who have dealt with panic attacks, stemming from some past traumas.  Did it pass quickly?  Did you find something that helped?

You might want to talk to a doctor.  You have a lot of things changing in your life right now... it makes sense that your body is reacting to the extra stress / new situations.

Hope you can find some help so it doesn't happen again (or at least that the next one will be less scary, since it's happened before and you'll be prepared!)

  • LOL!!  I expected this to be about the fight involving a former flight attendant

  • Oh I'm so sorry.  I have had panic attacks before.  It's absolutely frightening.

Two of the times, they were induced by my fear of heights (so not fun), but the third was definitely brought on by stress.  As long as you don't have any other symptoms (chest pain, numbness or tingling, or other weird aches and pains), I would just try to relax.  Talk a slow walk with your husband, or watch a comedy on TV.  I would try to avoid anything stressful for a couple of days, just lay on the couch, and try to eat foods that aren't going to upset your stomach.

I hope everything gets better for you soon.

With all the airplane talk I don't blame you...lol.

  • Thanks ESF and Soprano....I plan on chilling for a bit.  I think I'm jumping into the job thing too quickly.  I really think I need to take a slower approach.  I was hesitant to even go today and I wonder whether that was my intuition talking.

  • sorry! I've had one or two as well. I didn't know what it was till later. I don't think its the actual thing you are doing, just your management of your own anxiety about it at the time, if that makes sense. Try to think about what you can do get through it for next time.

    GL!
