Trash Can Cult?

Ok, ladies, I just read the post below about how expensive trash cans are and I don't understand how a trash can can be so great.  Other than keeping the smells in, what does it do?  We don't have any pets, so the pet-proof feature is not a big deal for us.

And do you have to touch the trash can to open it? That is something that both DH and I would hate having to do.  We have a rubbermaid with a pedal operated lid that works for us.  We just make sure that when we have anything we know is going to be incredibly stinky, we take it to the big trash can in the garage immediately.

I'm not being judgemental, I'm just trying to understand how a trash can can change your life!  Smile

Re: Trash Can Cult?

  • Well, I wouldn't say it changed my life exactly, but I do really love my Simple Human trash can.  A big part of its appeal for me, though is because I do have animals, particularly a beagle mutt who wants to investigate/eat anything he smells. And he can smell almost anything.  My old trash can was fairly lightweight plastic. He could smell everything in it and knock it over pretty easily.  I was constantly trying to redirect his attention away from the trash.  Since we got the Simple Human can, he has had no interest in it.  I guess even he can't smell what's inside.  I don't have to spend all my time scolding him for sniffing around the trash and I don't have to take everything with even the slightest smell outside.  It's been great for me, but if I didn't have Peanut to worry about, I might not have cared as much.  Oh and there's a foot pedal on it, so you don't need to touch it.
  • Change my life?  no...but its a solid, well-made trash can that does everything it says it will.  For how this one has lasted compared to the cheap knock-off we had prior, we've definitely gotten our $75 worth.  Mine also has a foot pedal to operate it...I think all SH's are that way.  I know even our little one in the bathroom has a foot pedal.
