Here comes the bride...A.L.O.T
So the wedding count for 2009 is up to five. Five weddings in 2009. The H is in four of them and I'm in two of them. We are going to be broke in no time.
We are both in one in December, we have a destination wedding in Aug or Oct (they haven't decided yet), a wedding and a baby due in May, a wedding in August, and then peen head's wedding sometime in November or December which is also a destination wedding.
I have offically cut off all weddings. We now decline all wedding invitations for the rest of the year.
I think us getting married sparked something in all of our friends signaling that it is now OK to get married.
Re: Here comes the bride...A.L.O.T
We had 2 destination weddings in 2007 - Cape Cod in Sept and Mexico in Nov. And we had just bought our house (and started planning our wedding). Come to think of it - I'm not sure how we were able to afford that?! Cape Cod wasn't too bad b/c the bride was rich and paid for all the wedding party's lodging. So we just paid for our flights to RI and the rental car. Plus the costs of H being in the wedding and all. Mexico was expensive, though.
I know the one destination is peen-heads, but are one of you in the other destination wedding? is it imperative that you go?
Peen head's is in Key West and we were told that if we both don't attend then they will take a lot of offense to it. Even after I explained that it all depends on air fare. We just might not be able to afford both going down there.
Peen head's woman wants us both to come down and stay a week. I don't think she understands that money doesn't grow on trees.
go away troll... You have made it clear that we are all lame losers bc we chat on message boards after our weddings... Sorry we can't all troll away making fun of ppl for no good reason...
And Natalie I feel your pain! We already have 5 weddings this year (2 of which I am in...) and one is a destination wedding to Mexico. We actually already have 3 weddings for 2010! We are going to be exhausted!

Nat - we went in with another couple and got the bride & groom a gift. It just wasn't as much as I'd normally spend for a wedding. We got them the grind & brew coffeemaker. So I think it was around $80/couple. It was my friend's second marriage, so she didn't register and said she didn't want gifts. Obviously, we wanted to give them something.
For the Cape Cod wedding, we pretty much went with normal gifts.

Luckily, as I'm sure ValentineBride would agree, I'm an old married loser
and most of my friends are already married, but we had the run of weddings, too. I think it happens when you hit your mid-20's.
Lily, I believe ettiquette says if you travel to a destination wedding that your presence is present enough. My friend got married in St. Thomas last year and I had the invitation framed for them and spent about half of what I'd give as a gift, but she was also one of my best friends, so I didn't want to go empty handed.
Luckily I'm the only married one in my friends so far, so I've been spared wedding-palossa.
The summer after our wedding we had three, two of which were cousins back to back. My cousin lives and married in Vegas, so my other cousin decided to use having the family there and being in the country (she lives in Europe) to get married too. One was July 6th, the other July 7th. It did save on airfare!
wow...you are going to be busy! I think the destination weddings will be fun!!!
We had 4 in 07 but they were spread out, which was good. My friend Melissa had 8 that year...it was nuts and she was so sick of weddings by the end.
We had 5 weddings in a two month spread last year. Ours was the last one in May and by the end of it I was so SICK of weddings.
None this year. Which sucks cause I want an occaison to wear my fancy jewelery again.
i can't wait until all of my friend are married!! I had four weddings last year (i was only in one), and I'm in only one so far this year , and then i know a friend who's getting engaged soon and then another girl who may have a 10 or 11 wedding. it's just so expensive--and it all depends on how demanding the bride is and the other bridesmaids.
good luck!
OUCH!
If it's any consolation, once you get old, your friends stop asking you to be BMs and start turning to their younger, firmer and prettier cousins. At least that's what happened with mine! LOL
