Question about San Diego Beaches...
Hi Laides,
I'm planning on visiting San Diego with my family in September and wanted to know what beaches are kid friendly with lots of sand. Also, tips on where to park, where to eat and so forth would be great! We'll be staying about a couple miles away from SeaWorld if that helps.
TIA!

I agree Coronado is the best, definitely the most kid friendly. As far as meals it just depends on what you are looking for.
For breakfast my favorites are Hash House a go go and the 101 diner. Hash house is located in Hillcrest and the 101 is in Encintas which also has a nice beach (Moonlight beach).
Some good lunch places:
Hodads in Ocean Beach, it has AMAZING burgers. South Beach Bar and Grille has the best fish, shrimp, and lobster tacos ever, it is located in Point Loma. Both places can get pretty crowded but worth the wait, and they are within walking distance to the beach.
For Dinner:
If you go to Coronado try the Coronado Fish Company, a small place but super yummy fresh food! Also, Cuatro Milpas has excellent food. Both of these would also be good for lunch. And all of these are very kid friendly!
Hollie had some great suggestions!
Since you're close to Sea World, the closest beaches will be Mission Beach and PAcific Beach...I personally think Mission Beach is too crowded and gross (and often full of drunk people, but that was before they outlawed alcohol on the beach, but there are alot of bars nearby) and maybe not hte best for kids?
My favorite beach in that area is Tourmaline Beach, which is north of Crystal Pier. A great place for breakfast is Kono's, which is right at Crystal Pier. The wait is long, but worth it (cheap, and ton's of food, too!!!). I think anywhere North of the peir is less crowded, more local, and more family friendly (and almost any beach in San Diego has tons of sand!)
Learning to start all over again... Blog
Definitely Coronado. It's on the Travel Channel's Best Beaches for Families.

Definitely Coronado! It is by far the best beach around here. Nicest sand, and its huge. They have lots of little cafes & restaurants along Orange ave that are kid-friendly. Just walk along there and you will find something.
Staying in Coronado could be expensive, but I'm not sure....its so gorgeous though its worth it! Plus you are really close to downtown which has tons of great restaurants in the gaslamp, little italy & east village.
Have fun!
Thanks everyone!!!
One more quick comment: What is parking like when you get to the beach? Is there a big parking lot for beach goers? Or do you have to park somewhere random and walk? If I went to Cornonado Beach, where is the best parking?
