Ugh....property tax increase!
After a long day at work, I came home to my "reassessment letter" from Evesham township. I knew it was coming, but it still stinks to have to fork over more $$$ in taxes. Funny, when I had someone come in to price my house when we were looking to sell back in October, the amount they told me was significantly less than what the tax assessor thinks (hmmmmm--looks like someone is trying to get more money from us!)
At this rate, I seriously question how they expect people to buy houses/live in Jersey? My sister (in PA) pays $1100/year in taxes and my MIL (who lives on the beach in Florida) only pays $1500/year.
OK...vent over....need to re-do the budget again!

Re: Ugh....property tax increase!
You can appeal your re-assessment. I'm not sure the exact procedure but it definitely can be done. Call the Township Tax Assessor and ask for the information.
Thanks for the advice -- I was looking into that online. I just want to understand how he came up with the number. The funny part is I got the note in the mail TODAY, and the re-appeal needs to be scheduled by tomorrow. The note was dated 1/16, but didn't show up until today.

NJ taxes suck!! However, the house prices where we wanted to live in PA (Delaware Co) were significantly higher. So it's pretty much a wash. We stuck with NJ because my parents are there, and my mom is going to be my daycare.
I'm just hoping we can find our next house in Logan Twp so our taxes aren't $10k/year. Right now they're around $7k for a townhouse. UGH.
uggh...This happened to us too and we are Glassboro taxes...b/c they are building up the college town the taxes keep going up...when we moved in we were paying 3500 and now we are over 5000 in two years!!!
I grew up in the turnersville/ sewell area and people their are paying 8-12,000 a year for taxes!! We're gonna end up paying more for property taxes then our actual mortgage
