Since tacky is the topic tonight...

Have you ever received a wedding invitation that stated "No Box Gifts"?  Personally, I only give money for weddings, but it's a whole other game when you make it a rule!  This was a very large wedding- over 400 people- so getting boxes would be logistically hard. But still!

Re: Since tacky is the topic tonight...

  • what if I brought it in a bag lol!
  • hmmm...then I'd send a gift from the registry (or something ridiculous).  I don't like when people "suggest" their gift.

  • I have honestly never recieved an invitation like that but that is seriously one the most tacky things I have ever heard of.
  • I've never seen that!  I'd interpret that as "no gifts please"!

I think someone on here received an invite that said "if you're not invited to the reception please leave your gifts at the back of the church".  That cracks me up!

  • didn't someone on here post before about being invited to a covered dish wedding reception??
  • very tacky IMO.  A gift is a GIFT...you be gracious and grateful for whatever you recieve.
  • Honestly the wedding invitation isn't supposed to mention a gift.

The only ones I've gotten that mentioned any gifts were ones that requested donations to a charity in lieu of a gift.

  • I never recieved a invite that stated that.  I personally think that you should tell someone what not to get you, even if you have 400 guests and might need help transporting them.
  • Awful. ?Like they couldn't be bothered to get a box home from the reception?

  • Nope, never heard of specifying what type of gifts you'd like. We live in Florida and got married in Jersey. And we got lots of boxed gifts for both our bridal shower and wedding in Jersey. I was actually really happy. And my family shipped all our gifts down a few months later.

  • That is ridiculous!!
  • Wedding invites should not mention gifts ever. Period.

  • They should have just put "Money Gifts Only" instead of trying to hide the fact that they're tacky.

  • I went to a shower once and they asked for money on the invite...not cool.  A few of us brought gifts.  She opened them and her BM's actually made her a hat with like 2 bows on it!  It was the dumbest thing EVER.
