What's your next purchase for your home?

Working on any new projects lately?  Updating any decor?   I'm lusting after a new sofa lately...and flirting with the idea of repainting our office a slate blue color.  What's on your home list?  (Just thought I'd throw out a post from our earlier days when that's what we always talked about!)  I miss these kind of posts though...

Re: What's your next purchase for your home?

  • Finish the baby's room of course!!  Dh swears he'll get our bedroom painted before the baby is born, time will tell on that one.  When it gets warmer we are building a deck for out back.
  • Not a project, but our next purchase will be a mattress!!  We are in desperate need!!

Any suggestions?  Even where to look//buy?

  • Well I would like to continue getting decor stuff for the walls and curtains for a few rooms.  I also need new chairs for our kitchen table.  Other than that it will eventually be the nursery!!!  Can't wait!!!
  • I'm getting ready to get new paint for our living and dining rooms.  Buh bye peanut butter (woohoo!) and hello SW Townhall Tan.

I recently painted a fleur de lis on my powder room trash can to go with my French theme.  And I added some zebra print pillows to my living room.  I need to start over with my bio since I lost everything on the laptop so then I'll post new pics.

I say go for the color Jill...I have been totally loving grey/grey blue tones for a while and would love to use them but it would totally mess up my entire color scheme :)

I already know that if we ever have a baby I think I want to use SW's Silvermist for the walls.

  • Our next furniture purchase is going to be a new TV stand for DH's monster tv.  I have to wait though because we just loaned (i.e. gave) step-MIL money.

After that I am going to paint the spare room some shade of blue and put up new roman shades to replace the blinds that are there now.

The next big thing for the house is probably new storm windows.

  • We got a new sectional for our TV Room in the basement right before Christmas.  I'm loving it!  I'm not usually too big on sectionals but with this space it just works the best.  Previously we just had one couch with built in recliners that I hated.  Its so nice for both Joe and I to just relax and lay down without being on top of one another.

As for projects most of the ones we want to complete need to wait for spring.  We want to put new doors on our shed and extend our patio out about a foot or 2.

  • I miss these kind of posts too.  Our home projects will probably be on hold for a while but I've been contemplating a new color for our kitchen.  I like the green that the previous owner chose but we need a fresh coat in there and I feel like it's a little too dark so maybe something lighter?  I'd also like to make a valence for our master bath.  Ooh, and we have had a new light fixture to hang in the entry way for a while now but haven't gotten to it.  I actually forgot about it & it's been sitting in a closet.  I'd also like new bedding for our guest room but that might be on hold until I have time to find something just right for in there.

  • I miss these posts too!  Unfortunately any and all home purchases or projects are now on hold for the time being.  I haven't shared about this much, but we *may* be relocating due to DH's job.  So until we know for sure what we're doing we're in limbo.  If we find out we're moving I have lots of projects lined up that much get done before we put our house on the market... I don't even want to think about it :(
  • Charlene -- Would this relocation put you closer to harrisburg? Smile
  • Unfortunately, no.  My husband's job is being relocated to Seneca Falls, NY.  Depending on the offer we may or may not be moving there (or here as that is where I'm posting from currently, lol) otherwise he will be laid off tentatively Feb. 28th.  He has applied to numerous jobs all over the state (including the HBG area) and so far hasn't had much luck since most places, after posting the job, went into a freeze on all new hires :(  Sucks really.  But we're trying to be optimistic about the whole thing.
  • Ugh Charlene!  That stinks...although that area is supposed to be absolutely gorgeous.  I can't even imagine how upset you would be to have to leave your new kitchen!

    What does your DH do?

  • OMG Jen, you hit the nail on the head there!  No lie, my first thought when all this came about was having to leave my new kitchen!  (no offense to my personal friends reading this, lol)  I walk in there some nights and just look at it and get sad :(  I waited 4 years for that kitchen and then to only get to enjoy it for a few short months is heartbreaking.  It's even more heartbreaking to look at potential new homes and see older/outdated kitchens in most of them.  At least though if we had to do another remodel, it would be pretty painless since I already know what I like :)

My DH's current position is Product Order Engineer - couldn't tell you exactly what that means, but the company he works for designs and manufactures industrial and commercial pumps.

  • Ugh...I would probably think the same thing.  DH was showing me houses a few months ago and my first thought was always but I've already made my kitchen/bath nicer than this...LOL.

Hmm...that's hard with the job.  I was going to say he should check out the companies in the Hershey area too.  I would check out www.pennstatehershey.org and www.psu.edu for the Harrisburg or College of Medicine sites because it never hurts to see what's available.

    I would also check www.hersheyjobs.com

Hope you have a nice weekend in NY.  I'm jealous about all the awesome wine you'll be able to try...yum!

  • Thanks for those links, I will def. pass them on.  It's sickening and disheartening to know how many jobs he's applied for (and is well qualified for) and yet has heard nothing positive.  Companies w/ jobs in his area of work are just not hiring right now.  It's very scary.  We really, really hate the thought of moving but we may not have much of a choice :(  With the economy the way it is now, and not knowing how long it's going to take for things to turn around, you kind of have to go where the jobs are, sad to say.  I'm just thankful that it's just us to worry about and no kids to uproot at this point.  Gotta stay positive!
