Have fun in the Finger Lakes this weekend. We usually go to the wineries around Lake Cayuga, especially Lucas for a case or two of Tug Boat Red. If you like Thai, Thai Cuisine on Rt 13 across from Wegmans in Ithaca is the best. Someday we will move there, right now it is where we plan to retire.
Re: Charlene
Thanks for the recs. Denise! If not this weekend, I'll keep them in mind for *if* we move here.
Most of our weekend will be spent in the Geneva/Seneca Falls area at the top of Seneca Lake...trying to explore the neighborhoods within a 30 min. radius to give us a better idea of where we might want to live. His company has activities planned for today (he's touring the facility now while I nest from our hotel room!) but after breakfast tom. we'll be on our own the remainder of Sat. and all day Sun. Any recs. for places in this area??? We definitely want to find a great place to eat tom. night as well as buy a bottle or two (or ten) of wine to bring home.
And it makes me feel a bit better to know that you aspire to retire here.
I have been looking on the internet for land on the other side of the lake - near Trumansburg. I think one of my profs from grad school lives in Groton. I went there once for dinner, very cute town, check it out if it is in your radius. You might want to tighten the radius for DH's commute because winter can be bad up there. My friend put a pic of her thermometer on FB last week, it was -18.
There is a cute diner in Seneca Falls *I think*. And a fancy old hotel in Geneva, haven't been there but I think it is nice. I have a pair of shoes I love that were made in Aurora. Have fun!!
If I'm not mistaken, I think Groton is just out of our radius. I'm not sure though, I've been looking at some many different areas it's hard to keep track.
As far as the winters...from what we're told, yes they get a lot of snow, but it's just snow - no ice really. Snow is not an issue, it's the ice that causes problems. We were also told that we're below the "snow belt", those areas being about an hour north near Syracuse and Rochester. They get all the lake-effect snow. The FL area is said to be a bit more protected. Again, that's just just what we're told, but to be honest I was expecting to see piles and piles of snow and I think we have more at home!
I think the fancy old hotel you mention my be the Belhurst? We drove past it on the way in and it is pretty
It should be fun to drive around and explore... I can't wait until all these planned "activities" are over with!
Hey, Charlene....just butting in to say I'm sorry to hear about Steven's job situation right now. I'd be a nervous wreck! I'm sad to hear that you might have to leave your kitchen, too! Wherever you go though, you'll always be a Central PA nestie!
Aww, thanks Jill! I was just thinking about it over the last few days and wondered if I'd become one of "those" girls who can't move on from the Central PA board...I don't think I could leave, but I don't want to be annoying either. Weird that the thought even popped in to my head...can you tell where my priorities lie?
We got this news the day before NYE, so I've slowly gotten myself calmed down. I currently have no fingernails though so that kind of tells you how nervous I still am. It's hard. The one thing keeping me semi-sane is knowing it's not *too* far away, it's not like I have to hop on a plane or anything to come "home". And we do plan to come home often to visit family and friends, and we hope people will visit us a lot too - the appeal of living in a tourist destination
But thanks for you thought, I so appreciate them!
TTC since Jan 07. Dx with PCOS Jan 08
The dinner tonight at Ventrosa (I think that's the spelling) Winery was divine, and so far we have 1 bottle of wine coming home with us.
Thanks Ang for your thoughts as well. I'm hoping that it all works out too and trying hard to keep the mentality that whatever will be, will be. If we do end up moving up here maybe we could do a May '06 nestie GTG in the Finger Lakes! I'll host
