Totally not a sociologist and I really need to get a life since I am writing this on a Friday night, but here are my nest theory ramblings.
In my mind there are several categories of nesties -
Core nesties - posts regularly on a board, usually knows other nesties IRL
Fringe - post regulary on a board, trends towards drama and me-me-me posts
Lurkers - out there, may post (and when they do you are like who is that), more common on national boards?
Trolls - bashers who are usually attracted to the national boards
Any other ideas for types of nesties?
Core nesties are broken down into subgroups of different groups of friends but are inter-related by a web of interconnected friends. Fringe loves fringe, annoys cores. When the core/fringe ratio is out of whack something has to give.
I think you also go through phases of nest obsession. When you first find it it is like a honeymoon and you want to post all the time. Then you mellow out and it becomes part of your life (and you still have the complusion to know what is going on).
Honestly I have a real life. (this may be DD'd pending discovery)
Re: my nest theories
TTC since Jan 07. Dx with PCOS Jan 08
OMG I love it...dont DD. I think its so true though.
Interesting theory.
When exactly will my nest obsession end? I'm pushing 5 years!
I am not sure if a nest obsession ever ends. The study has not progressed enough to determine the end point. I think it integrates into your life and stays
In some cases of fringe it takes over and can be fatal (to a board). Maybe the fringe is the new core and is part of a natural progression? Fringe does not seem to annoy fringe very often although they can instigate posts that never die.
