guess how much it costs to give birth....
i just got a copy of the hospital cost for the birth of my baby. (this does not include the dr. costs for the birth).....
total bill is $31,936.83!!
i wonder how much the dr. bill will be.
i have total respect to those couples waiting to save more money before ttc! babies are so expensive (although my little girl is worth every penny!!)
Re: guess how much it costs to give birth....
We don't get a hard copy of our hospital bills unless we request them, so after reading this, I just logged onto our insurance website for giggles....
So far, I've added up about $45,000 for my pre-natal care through delivery. Our one and only co-pay was $20. Half of these doctor's names I don't even recognize, but they were paid, so I assume they are the anesthesiologist and pediatricians that saw Nico in the hospital.
It's amazing the difference between the amount they billed and what they actually accepted from the insurance as payment. Can you say inflated charges??
Thank God for insurance!
oh my. I am glad that you have insurance.. that would be one big bill to pay...
I am also glad that I only have to pay a co-pay for all of my care. It was just $10 for the OB/GYN for the whole pregnancy, and I paid a co-pay for each visit to the Peri.
I am quite curious now to see how much my whole pregnancy cost... I was high risk, and had quite a few u/s's, as well as a stay overnight around 36 weeks....

The really sad thing about this, is those charges were knocked down because the insurance company has people who's main job it is to negotiate them down. People without insurance would end up paying the full bill and since they're not a high-volume customer like the insurance companies are, they have very little chance of getting anything at all reduced. This country seriously needs to rethink the way the whole process works!
Wow. The most we can pay out of pocket is $2k, so we just put $2500 in an FSA (since I have other prescriptions to pay, plus copays).
I never thought about the expense! Thank goodness for insurance!
Thank god for insurance
