UTI

So I had a regular check up w/ my family Dr. last week.

They called to tell me I had a UTI, and that if I was having symptoms they'd call me in a perscription...I said I wouldn't know if I did have any since I've never had one and she said burning when going.  I said, no I have no symptoms then, and she ok, well just come back in a couple weeks to re-test.

I said, so I have a UTI, and b/c I have no symptoms ignore it?  She pretty much said "i guess so".

Is this normal?? Can't I do some kind of damage by ignoring an infection?

Thanks ladies!!

Re: UTI

  • I've had bladder infections and didn't know it until there was pain.  I'd get the antibiotics.
  • Sorry... meant to say UTI can go up into bladder causing infection there.

Here's a good resource but I don't know how to make it clicky.

  • That's really strange... I had my first UTI last summer, and I thought my life was going to end. I was in so much pain and felt like I had to go every 2 seconds! Maybe it is some form of infection, with less severe symptoms. Definitely keep an eye out for symptoms and get re-tested in a couple weeks. You don't want it to linger!
  • I get re-current UTIs.  From my experience, it is NEVER ok to ignore a UTI.  The bacteria can spread up your urinary tract and into your kidneys causing a much bigger problem.

  • An infection by nature is bad,  I believe they usually come with fever,  so why would they want you to ignore it?  I can understand not giving antibotics if it is minor,  always taking a pill can hurt your immune system,  but no suggestions on home remedies you can do to help flush it out of your system?  Could you check with another doctor or your phamacy?
  • I have UTIS very very often, and I cant imagine if you had one and didnt know. I can barely tolerate the pain, but I everyone is different. You can get one of those test at like CVS or walgreens to test if you have one
  • When I was younger I had several UTI's.  I was told by the Dr. to drink lots of fluids (water and cranberry juice are best) to flush out the bacteria.  Also eat yogurt, it helps to calm the bacteria levels somehow.

  • I dont know how you can have a UTI and not know it!  I get them alot, at least once a year.  I have stock in AZO!!  The home remedies I know of are lots and lots of water and lots of cranberry juice.  When it gets worse you will probably have symptoms. How did they even know to test for a UTI?? Is this standard now??
  • Thanks!

I guess they check w/ a routine check up now a days b/c I didn't complain of anythng...

I guess I'll be getting me some cranberry juice... Smile
