DH was promoted Friday and then...

Demoted today!!!  He works in a yard loading trucks and he was promoted to shift supervisor on Friday (with no pay raise), they have been talking to him about this promotion for weeks,  and then today they said they decided they cant promote him because of his points (everyday late is half a point and every day missed is a point, he has accrued 10 points in 16 months).  I understand this, but why didnt they think of this BEFORE they promoted him!!  He was so excited! So proud of himself, couldnt wait to tell his family and now they decide to demote him, but would like him to stay shift supervisor until they can move things around to get another guy in there for shift supervisor!!! WTF!!! On top of this, he went to the plant manager today and thanked him so much for the recognition, said I wont let ya down blah blah blah, the plant manager KNEW he was demoting him, but shook his hand and was nice to him etc.. and NEVER said to him, well you are not promoted anymore.  About an hour later he gets the news that he has no promotion!  Now he feels like a total jacka$$ for even saying anything. 

I dont understand how campanies can treat their employees like that!!

  • That is so awful.  Is it even legal?  I would not be able to give the job my all knowing what happened.  I am so sorry for your H.

  • That's kind of a lot of points (I've worked for companies inthe past where 3 lates within a certain period of time was automatic dismissal), but I agreee that they should have reviewed that kind of information in his file before making a decision and telling him about it!  That sucks.  Hopefully, he can clean up his record and not let his disappointment disrupt what a good job he's been doing.  That will show how much of a team player he is, and hopefullly be able to re-promote him hte next time this opportunity comes along.  ((hugs)) to your H!

    And that is exactly my issue.  I understand they cant promote him due to the points.  I get that.  But they have been talking about this for 2 weeks now and he is the assistant supervisor, so he should get the promotion, he has been doing the job of supervisor for a few weeks now.  The other thing that jsut kills me is that the guy that they ARE promoting (instead of DH) was caught smoking weed AT WORK a few months ago.  Somehow he passed the drug test, but he is on film smoking weed!!!!  DH is extremely discouraged, i agree it would be good if he can keep on going the way he is going and hopefully get a raise and a promotion soon, but this is a really hard pill to swallow for him.  Ugh

  • Oh how horrible!  Hopefully your DH can keep his chin up and improve his points so he can be really promoted (or find a whole new job).

     They drug tested the guy that is being promoted and the guy he got caught smoking with and one guy failed, so he was fired on the spot and this guy passed.  I have no idea how he passed and why that even matters!  But I gues they need something more solid than what is on tape??  Maybe the video of it is sketchy of something. But I know it was because he passed the test that he still has a job.  THe details are sketchy.

    DH is also torn as to whether or not he should stay at this job.  He has been there for a long time compared to EVERYONE else there including the plant manager.  It is hard to say  if him staying after this would prove him to be a team player, or a doormat?  When raise time came around last year he got a 2 cent raise, because the week they were giving out raises he had one loader error!! THey said they would rethink it in 6 months, but that was the old plant manager, and the new plant manager is not ignoring it. When he switched from second to first shift he lost his shift differential pay.  So he is making LESS now than when he was first hired over a year ago, and he did get moved up to assistant supervisor!.  He already feels like he is their doormat. 

    I think i am more frustrated about this than he is!!

  • What a horrible situation. ?I'm sorry this happened to your H. ?Hopefully he can move past it (even though it was awful of them not to consider every angle BEFORE offering the position) and be considered for the next one!

  • That is beyond douche-y.  They definitely should have decided 100% before they promoted your DH.

  • That stinks and makes no sense to promote someone only to demote them. 
  • That was a really douchetastic thing for them to do.  Your poor H.  Tell him to keep his chin up.  Maybe he should start looking for something ese?
