New to The Bump & to Mommyhood!

Hi Everyone,

My name is Kristine, I just recently found out I am pregnant. I'm also new to "The Bump" and the Ontario area. I thought I'd post and try to meet other mommies in my area.

This is my first pregnancy so I think I'm a little overly cautious about everything. I'm reading all kinds of books and every pamphlet they throw at me! I had my first appointment yesterday...I'm about 6 weeks by their calculations. I have Kaiser Permanente and it seems that their way of setting up appointments is different than most. My appointment consisted of paperwork with the LVN and then giving 7 "wonderful" vials of blood and two urine samples. I am absolutely terrified of needles... I walked in trying to be all brave and of course as soon as I go through the door laying on the counter was somone else's samples!! I think I turned white because the nurse at the door immediately pushed a chair under my butt. HaHa! On top of everything I was alone, my hubby was working and my mom didn't tell me she was available! Oh well... so I sit down and they put the rubbery thing on my arm and I'm thinking "Ok just breath..." The first 3-4 vials I was doing ok and was proud of myself, then the nurse kept going, by the 6th vial I was white again and they made me lay down and I got all clammy and dizzy. I almost passed out! It sucked!!! Ugh... I'm not going to like this aspect of the pregnancy.

But other than that... I get to meet my doctor in about 2 1/2 weeks. I don't know what to expect. I'm not thinking they are going to do any kind of ultrasound, although I wish they would and I really hope they don't want more blood! Ugh...

So YAY - we're pregnant!! A little pea in the pod!! If anyone is in or area my area, please email me... I'd love to sit and talk!!

  • Thanks! We are really excited!!
  • Welcome. Congrats on the pregnancy. You'll probably find a lot of helpful info on the pregnancy boards, but there are a good number of pregnant gals and new moms here. And then there are the few of us who are lagging in the baby making department for whatever reason.
  • Hi! Congratulations! Glad to know that you are educating yourself. We IE Nesties like educated friends!
  • Congrats on the pg. Welcome to the board. I just gave birth at Kaiser Fontana. I am assuming that is where you are going. Kaiser is a little different but 2 of us on the board just had Kaiser babies. If you have any questions, just ask away. Sorry to say you're going to be getting a lot of blood drawn in the future. And you will become a pro at peeing in a cup, you have to do that at every appt.  Oh, and totally normal to be cautious about your pregnancy. I know I was a paranoid mess during my whole first tri and most of my second.

  • Congrats and welcome!!
  • Congratulations and welcome!  I have Kaiser too.  I was horrified when they drew my blood--I made my H go with me because I knew I wasn't going to be able to handle that part by myself.
  • Congrats and welcome! I also just had my baby at Kaiser in Fontana. I almost passed out during the first blood draw. Seriously. My vision started getting funny and they had to lay me down. I'm a huge wimp when it comes to blood tests. Feel free to ask any question or e-mail me beckanne122 at yahoo.
  • Welcome!!

I'm a Kaiser mom, (Garden Grove Infertility Clinic) and my OB is in Riverside where I will deliver.

  • Oh another thing about the blood. They wont ever draw that much again. I only had a few more and they were 1-2 vials. You might have an u/s at yuor first visit, I did!
  • Welcome to the board and congrats on the pregnancy! You'll be almost used to needles by the time you deliver, but you'll still hate them. :) I had my husband go with me to hold my hand when I had my blood drawn. If nothing else, it's a good distraction from the needles. :)
  • Welcome to the boards and congrats on your new baby!

I'm not pregnant, but I don't like having my blood drawn so I ask for the butterfly needles.

  • Welcome to the board, and congrats on your pregnancy!

I used to be terrified of needles and blood draws, and even passed out a few times.  I am an old pro now. Wink

  • Welcome to the board and congrats on your pregnancy!

Which part of Ontario do you live in? I live in Rancho, but am only a few miles from Ontario Mills.

  • Congrats and welcome! I go to Kaiser in Fontana, too.  Who is your ob/gyn, if you don't mind me asking?  I have a really good ob/gyn if you need a rec.  As far as I know, on your next appt, they will do your u/s.  That should be fun and exciting.  They do things different there like you said, and I hope your experience will be good there... except for the blood-drawing thing.  Yikes! Congrats again!
  • Congratulations on the pregnancy! Welcome to the IE board!

Giving blood is never easy- I donate blood frequently and still can't look at the needle.

Don't worry about tomorrow. After all, today is the tomorrow that you worried about yesterday. Take each day as it comes...one at a time. Midnight Baking Adventures Blog
  • Welcome to the board and congrats!  I hate needles too--I request the baby needles blc it is hard to find my veins, and I usually get stuck twiceCrying.
  • welcome and congrats! :-)  I'm usually around mainly at night as i work nights...but I am trying to frequent here during the day when i can :-)
  • Welcome to the board!  I'm not one of the pregnant ladies or new mommies but I am a mom.  I can't remember much about my pregnancy which was 8 years ago.  I don't even remember if they drew tons of blood.
