Thoughts on Vineland ?

My husband and I are looking at areas to buy a home. Any thoughts on Vineland as far as schools, people, taxes, anything would be helpful. TIA

Re: Thoughts on Vineland ?

  • I know some parts don't have a good reputation,  but it is a pretty big area.
  • As in crime, is it unkept, I'm just so unfamilior with the area.

  • Large school district. At a glance many of their school report cards have me thinking it is not a desirable district.

My first thought was that I wouldn't recommend the schools there. I didn't really have any specific facts to go on, so I looked up their report cards online.

  • There are some nice rural parts, but as a whole, IMHO, when I think of Vineland I cringe.  There are some good schools - again more towards the rural ends of it.  I did my student teaching there, and while my school was nice,  I wouldn't personally send my kids to school there.  And if you are considering selling anywhere in the future, you may have a hard time.

  • dh and I honestly looked to build a new home down there... but were really hesitant.  Like a pp said, when I think of the area as a whole, I cringe.  It's just not a desirable area.  I always think of the fact that they have a 3% tax rate.. not a good sign.. know what I mean?

I think there are some really nice pockets, but the bad areas/crime/issues outweigh the good.

  • Like the other girls said, there are some nice parts, but I know there are more bad areas.  As for school districts, I would look elsewhere unless you're looking to go private.
  • I agree with PPs. I'd personally stay away from Vineland.
  • I'm from Buena, which is a neighboring (and smaller) town to Vineland. Like pp's, Vineland does have decent areas, but the school district isn't too desirable. There are private schools..Ellison, Sacred Heart, etc..that you could consider.

Buena is a very nice town and there are a few new developments and houses going up. The school district is, I would say, really good compared to others in the area.

  • Thank you so much ladies. One more place I can cross off my list.

Good call! I live in Franklinville, which is about 10-15 mins from Vineland, and I wouldn't recommend it.

  • I live in Hammonton and we love it!  It's a small quite town Very blue collar...but good food, cute little shops, corner store where everyone knows your name kinda place... and the HS in brand new...good luck!!
