I was wondering, what age range are you getting licensed for? How many munchkins?
We are doing 0-4 years (probably 2 children) and it makes the shopping list that much longer LOL! Maybe we can compare notes?
I hope you get to start your classes soon. It's a lot of information but such great information and resources are provided.
I am so excited for both of us! :-)
Re: **CTBride**
Thank you Rikki! I understand, btw, I have those kinds of feelings all the time.
hey there!
we will technically be licensed to take on any age, however we've stated our preference to be 0-2 for regular foster care and 0-4 for respite care (2 wks or less). We will also be s special-needs friendly home so its feasible that we'll take on a 4 or 5 year old for regular care that is developmentally within the 0-2 range. And they are desperate for homes to take in sibling pairs so I'm sure we would get a call for a placement with one child within our preference and and older sibling.
wow, that sounds overly complicated, but hopefully, you get me
the biggest thing i'm focusing on in collecting all the stuff is multi-use and anything that can be convertible, should be. i'm also sticking to the basics big time. Alison (2brides) emailed me a wonderfully comprehensive list and i'd be happy to pass it along (email me: ec371@aol.com).
I know your home inspection is coming up soon - i'm so excited to hear how it goes (and have no doubt they will be blown away by your preparedness)!! How are you liking the classes so far? It looks like ours will begin in late march/early april.

I got what you meant :-) It can get complicated! They need homes for sibling groups here too.
We have started collecting too. We have a travel system, but need a convertible carseat still. We have a bed for an older child but need our crib. We started the most adorable collection of baby clothes; all sizes and some gender specific, but still need older childrens clothing and shoes. We also just got our bouncy/vibrating chair. It looks so comfy, I want to sit in it :-)
I haven't done nearly enough to child-proof yet, but I know we have time. Here, they don't schedule a home visit until your paperwork is all complete. Ours is so I am just waiting for the call but, as you know, there is a lot of waiting.
I registered us with all the formula companies so we can take advantage of coupons/offers etc. We have no idea what these children will need or can tolerate so I figured it would be good to have a little of everything on hand. We can swap when the time comes, if you like.
I LOVE our classes. Some topics are pretty basic but I have found that they dole out a lot of "insider" info and resources during them. Those little tidbits are the best! It's also really nice to meet new people since we are relatively new to this specific area. A support system is so important to us. Some people just don't "get" fostering.
If I end up with double of anything I will send it your way. Keep me posted on what you need.
that is so sweet, thank you...and same goes for us! please, please, please use me as a resource for anything. registering with the formula sites is brilliant, i'm going to do that right now...
oh, and another great resource i wanted to pass along was craigslist - I posted something on there about becoming a foster home and needing the basics to get us up and running - figuring if i got one response I'd be happy...well, I've gotten multiple responses from insanely generous people. We've already picked up a highchair, toys, kid chairs, a booster seat and some other random stuff. Then another woman offered me her pack n play, bouncy seat, bumbo chair, toys, and a ton of girl clothes (she just want to wait until we're licensed to hand it over, which makes perfect sense). We've also gotten offers of diapers, clothes, ect. Crazy right??
Andrea and I have a challenge going for the month of january where I'm not "allowed" to spend non-essential $$ - so i cant wait for feb to hit so i can start picking up baby clothes and search for a crib/carseat/travel system
i love that i've got someone to go through this with!

February is right around the corner.... I can't wait to see what you get first:-)
One of my friends has all kinds of goodies for us too. We are getting her swing which will be super helpful. So many of these babies are drug exposed and hard to soothe.
If you want to feel like you are moving things along while you wait, baby/child-proof the house. That will take time and it's kind of fun to see all the little latches, outlet covers etc. It makes it feel real, if that makes sense.
i'm certain my first purchase will be a onsie...or clothes of some sort - i just cant wait to have adorable little outfits hanging in our closet
