prolactin

has anyone had a high prolactin level?whats the treatment?i had blood work done and this came up and need to go back to dr for it but was just curious if anyone else has had this prob?

Re: prolactin

  • I had this issue years ago.  I think they re-did the blood work and put me on the pill to help regulate my hormones.  When I had it retested I was ok and haven't had issues since. Hope that helps!
  • yeah i have dr appointment on feb 6 to sttart some meds?was it just hormones?
  • It was just bc hormones. From what I remember prolactin is produced in your pituitary gland. I think my elevation was caused by stressed, it was around the time my father was dying (hence lots of stress). There have been some studies that indicate stress can increase prolactin production.  I think this was my case since it went away after my father passed away, or it could have been the bc pills helping regulate me.

Have you looked it up on the internet?  I remember at the time I started reading too many things and had myself completely freaked out thinking something strange was wrong with me.  Have you had any symptoms of increased prolactin (discharge)? (don't feel like you have to answer if tmi)

  • no none of symptoms really but no period since oct and thats what started the tests.yeah i looked it up online but freaked me out too much because theres alot of things it could be.i dont feel like im under anymore stress than normal so who knows.they did start me on provera last week to see if that starts anything up but so far nothing.
  • Hope I didn't freak you out by my rambling!  I remember the doctor telling me that I wasn't ovulating back then but I did get my period.  Don't worry too much (easy to say, I know).  I hope everything turns out ok and this becomes a distant memory like my prolactin experience.
