Commute poll

Help us decide where we want to buy a house!  We work downtown, and are trying to figure out what kind of commute we'd be okay with...

-How far is your commute?

-If you work in downtown Portland, what part of town do you commute from?

-What do you prefer- shorter distance with a high/slow traffic route, or longer distance on a more open freeway?

Thank you!!!

Re: Commute poll

  • How far is your commute?  About 8 miles

-If you work in downtown Portland, what part of town do you commute from?  We are near the Gateway area in NE Portland.

-What do you prefer- shorter distance with a high/slow traffic route, or longer distance on a more open freeway?  Well, I take MAX, but DH drives.  I think he would prefer a shorter distance rather than a longer one.

  • How far is your commute? 18 Miles, 20-30 minute drive (w/o traffic), 45-60 minute train and/or car combo.

-If you work in downtown Portland, what part of town do you commute from? I work right downtown on 2nd and Morrison and commute from the eastern outskirts of Gresham.

-What do you prefer- shorter distance with a high/slow traffic route, or longer distance on a more open freeway? I've always lived at least 30 minutes drive from my work destination. I take the max most of the time and that helps when it's really congested. I would love to live closer and not spend 2 hours of my life each day commuting. However, when it comes down to it, I HATE stop & go traffic and I would rather drive a longer distance at a faster speed then travel a few miles in the same amount of time.

  • How far is your commute? I don't work downtown but DH does. We used to live in SE near Powell and 42nd which was about 5 miles for him. Since my work is near Tanasbourne I would drop him off on my way in to work. It would take about 20 minutes on slower, smaller roads.

Now we live in Tigard (but not that far out, near Washington Square) and we each commute 10 miles. DH takes 99W in to work most days bc I-5 is too congested early in the morning. It takes him about 30 minutes incl parking his car at his garage. I take 217 to 26 and it's usually pretty fast in the morning but can be slow in the afternoon. I have gotten used to it. I listen to NPR and try not to get annoyed by ppl cutting me off or trying to jump ahead.

  • I highly reccomend you look in the Milwaukie/Sellwood area, I love our commute!  I don't work downtown anymore, but I did for 2 years.  You just hop on the Ross Island bridge, get on McLoughlin, battle traffic for about 15 minutes, and you're home!  It's a great commute from downtown, that was one of our main deciding factors in buying in our neighborhood.

Now, my commute (to NE Portland) is about 15 miles, takes about 30 minutes, up to an hour if bad traffic, 15 minutes if no traffic.

I prefer to be in my car for less than 45 minutes... so I don't mind either way, as long as it takes less than 45 minutes to get to work.back home!

  • -How far is your commute?  30 minutes by bike, 45 minutes by bus.

-If you work in downtown Portland, what part of town do you commute from?  SE Portland, close-in.

-What do you prefer- shorter distance with a high/slow traffic route, or longer distance on a more open freeway?  I don't drive.  If you live fairly close-in, mass transit is really a good way to go (from a sanity, environmental and economical standpoint).  I also bike commute several days a week, which kills 2 birds with one stone.

  • -How far is your commute? 19 miles.  We live in Mill Park (outer SE PDX) and work near Washingtong Square.

-If you work in downtown Portland, what part of town do you commute from?  N/A.  But I wish I worked downtown!

-What do you prefer- shorter distance with a high/slow traffic route, or longer distance on a more open freeway?  I think I'd rather have the open freeway.  As it is, we have long distance AND slow traffic  Super Angry

-How far is your commute? 15/20 minute Max ride. I don't drive. Public transportation is wonderful in Portland.

-If you work in downtown Portland, what part of town do you commute from? We live in North Portland. About 6 miles from Downtown.

-What do you prefer- shorter distance with a high/slow traffic route, or longer distance on a more open freeway? I would hate a driving commute. I like taking mass transit. It gives me a nice opportunity to read everyday.

  • How far is your commute? 7 miles, but I take a combination of carpool, bike and bus. The public transit is fabulous and my work offers a cheap trimet pass.

-If you work in downtown Portland, what part of town do you commute from? We live in Woodstock (SE Portland)

-What do you prefer- shorter distance with a high/slow traffic route, or longer distance on a more open freeway? CLOSE TO HOME.

-How far is your commute? about 15 minute drive, I would take the bus but my hours are wacky & I stand all day (I know, excuses) and I can't bike. DH walks to work about 4 blocks away on Alder and 12th

-If you work in downtown Portland, what part of town do you commute from? Right in between nob hill and goose hollow

-What do you prefer- shorter distance with a high/slow traffic route, or longer distance on a more open freeway?  Close to home, we hate driving.

    Thank you!!!
