Back from Thanksgiving in NC

We drove to NC for Thanksgiving. ?I ate fried turkey for the first time, but I think I like baked turkey better. ?The drive was not bad on the way out....about 11 hrs, but the way back was AWFUL! ?14 hours to get home. ?We hit some construction, then we hit major traffic in Knoxville. ?It took nearly 3 hours to get through there. ?We hit a huge lightning storm that produced a lot of hail and freezing rain. ?Figure that was what was slowing traffic down. ?Wrecks maybe. ?No. ?Frickin Christmas lights. ?Granted it was a nice display, but #*F^@&$ Christmas lights on the outskirts of town slowed traffic to a crawl in both directions! ? ?We sat in traffic for 3 hrs because of Christmas lights. ?TN is so dumb sometimes.

Re: Back from Thanksgiving in NC

  • Oh I'd have been soooo irritated!!

We were driving once on Labor Day weekend and you know lots of people go OOT for that.  Just outside of Nashville on I-40 they had the westbound lane down to 1 lane for cones closing off a lane that they hadn't started working on yet.  Everything was fine, just they had put the cones out early.  Grrr!!

  • glad you got back safely! ?We had a horrible time coming back as well - we were traveling from Indiana and got stuck on I-65, south of Louisville, for an hour and a half because of 2 huge accidents. ?The weather wasn't even bad - just so much volume, I guess accidents were bound to happen. ?My poor daughters were troopers for sitting in car seats for 10 hours.
  • Glad to hear everyone is back and safe.  The drive from our bedroom to our kitchen wasn't too bad this year, but there was a little congestion when the dogs ran through.
April is National Grilled Cheese Month. How are you celebrating? image
  • I had a lot of friends coming back to Nashville on I-40W, and they said it was horrible as well. Ugh! I'm kind of glad that I didn't have to travel at all.
