too old for acne!

I'm so tired of breaking out! I look like a "before" picture these days! (...and yes, I do pick, and yes, I know I shouldn't, but I do it anyway when I'm stressed out.)

For heaven's sake, you'd think at 30 it might clear up. Plus I wanted to start using an anti-wrinkle product for the forwn lines, but guess what makes me break out more? anti-wrinkle products! yay!

Any suggestions? Proactive and Patricia Wexler, Retin A and Accutane were a bust....

TIA

Re: too old for acne!

  • Blair is how old...you're only 5-6 months out.  IMHO your body is still trying to regulate itself.  At about 9 mo pp with Nat, I went to see a dermatologist.  Who prescribed me with stuff and gave me sample of even stronger stuff.  Some of it was too harsh and I only use it (still today) for big break outs, just to reduce the "ugly time" and get it over with.  I have something I could use, light and gentle enough to use everyday, but I still don't.  It's nice to have tho and I'll use it if I remember to 2-3 x week.

In summary, give yourself and your skin more time to adjust.  And if you want, go see a derm.  Not sure about the anti-wrinkle stuff.  I just use OTC Neutrogena moisturizers.  HTH

  • I love the BLAIR BEAR!!!!  OMG!  So cute!!!!
  • I have recently broken out too!  I'm so bummed I've never had a problem with acne until this week.  It's gross.  I had recently started on the pill so I've been blaming it on that.  Not sure if its really the cause or not.
  • I had perfectly clear skin growing up and up until about my 7th month of pregnancy. It continued until I gave birth and then went away. Guess what? it came back about 6 weeks postpartum. It FINALLY started to clear up aroun 5.5 months pp.

Give it time. My doctor keeps saying this(and I totally agree), 9 months up and 9 months down. Meaning that it took your body 9(10) months to do all the things it needed to do to complete the pregnancy, so I should give it at least 9(10) months to get back to normal. Just a thought....

  • I like that 9 months up, 9 months down idea.

But I might be doomed, my skin was the clearest during PG, even the arm bumps went away! I'm sooo looking forward to going back on my regular bcp, b/c the minipill is ridiculous. My skin is icky to begin with, but I blame the minipill for exacerbating the problem.

  • oh I forgot to mention that I asked my ob too.  asked for something that helped with acne and mood swings...I got YAZ
