Chicago (city) mover recommendations?

Hey all.... we're doing an in-city move in a few weeks, and I need to start calling movers to schedule.    I've used Midway two times before with one good experience and one bad experience.      Anyone have any rave reviews of their movers for me?

thanks!

Re: Chicago (city) mover recommendations?

  • I've used The Professionals when we moved.  I found them through reviews on yelp.com.  However, they arrived a couple hours late and didn't call to say why.  It was a Saturday and it was hard to reach someone at the office.  The move also took a few hours longer than expected, so we ended up owing more money than they quoted.  Just a word of caution!  They had really great reviews on yelp.com, though.

  • I've used Midway Movers also twice and thought both times they were fabulous.
  • Joey's movers. They are friendly, quick, and timely. They didn't break or lose anything and they carefully wrapped up our large artwork that I hadn't been able to pack.

We moved between buildings that are strict about reserving elevator time, so the fact that Joey's was able to stick to our schedule was very important.

  • We used Checkmate movers.  They received an "A" on Angie's List.  I have some reservations about them.  They were really fast and helped us move in during extremely heavy rain.  One or two of my pieces received dings.  I also told them I didn't want them carrying our TV or the breakfont with just one person and every other mover we had used 2 people.

They unloaded a full truck in just under 1 hour and there were 4 guys.  They would load boxes into a bin and then send them through to elevator and on to the 5th floor.  It was one of the easiest pieces of the move.
