Definitely when it comes to writing about myself. I'm being asked to write a bio of my professional career and college. Problem is I haven't graduated from anywhere with a 4-year degree and I've been an admin. asst. since I was 18. Only the positions I had were worded to sound fancy schmancy or important. Aye! How could I possibly jazz up "I file and process paperwork efficiently"?
Re: I am not a good writer.
truth be told, I had a good laugh over "I file and process paperwork efficiently"! Sometimes just putting it out there plainly is the best method, plus whomever reads that will probably get a kick out of your plain, deliberate description as well.
You don't want your bio to be too dressed up -- resumes and bios all sound the same because people go through the thesaurus and replace all the boring descriptors with flowery, multi-syllabic synonyms.. forget it! It just sounds haughty and pretentious (as I am sounding right now...)
If you like I can edit it for you when you are finished, just let me know (It's what I do!)
process "such-and-such" reports on a (daily/weekly/monthly) basis
provide reports to corresponding departments for evaluation and analysis
maintain accurate and organized "such-and-such" records
coordinate gathering of information needed to process reports
good words to use: process, provide, maintain, organize, multi-task, coordinate
