Aldi

I saw a commercial for a new supermarket in my area called Aldi. What type of grocery store is it? Like a whole foods, or a normal grocery?

Re: Aldi

  • Aldi is a wonderful discount food store. They mostly sell their own private brand (sometimes have name brands, though), but everything I've had is good quality - especially their brand of oreos! lol...It's a great way to save money and still eat well. When you go, make sure to bring a quarter so that you can get a shopping cart (you get your quarter back). Aldi also does not suppy you with bags, so bring your own or keep an eye out for empty boxes (recycle!). Also, I'm not sure about the Aldi down here, but the one I'm used to does not take credit cards, so bring cash or your debit card.

Check it out - Aldi has some great deals!

  • The one in Winter Park doesn't take credit cards, but it does take debit cards (including debit visa). Great deals to be found there!
  • We now do most of our shopping there!  The only thing we have found that we don't like is their $.50 hot dogs!
  • Hi! :-)

On average how much do you guys save? When we went it was nothing like I expected. I thought it was going to be like a Walmart or a Target. (I went to the one in Winter Park). The prices seemed about the same to me but of course I'm really bad at remembering how much things are when we go grocery shopping. I may revisit it if it really is bargain shopping. TIA!

I went to the one in Winter Park a few weeks ago.  The produce is MUCH cheaper and in my opinion it looked better than Publix.  I bought all of my baking supplies for the holidays (coconut, graham crackers, nuts, choc. chips, etc) as well as organic corn chips (several dollars cheaper than tostitos brand), string cheese, and some frozen food items.

I looked on the website.  None of the stores take credit cards, that's how they keep the costs down.  They take cash and debit cards.  They also charge you for bags so bring your own.  You also need a quarter to get a grocery cart - but you get it back when you return the cart.  It helps save on the labor to have someone corral the carts in the parking lot.

Like I mentioned in a previous post, I tried it once.  I'll go back again.  Its not close enough to do my weekly shopping but worth it to go out of the way every once in a while.
