This is a longshot but do any of you ice skate?

I want to teach my (almost) 4 year old daughter how to ice skate.  should I buy double runners or just a regular single blade skate?

I learned on a regular skate but I think I was 5 or so...I really don't remember.

tia for any tips!

Re: This is a longshot but do any of you ice skate?

  • I learned on double blades.  I seem to recall that a single blade was really tough for balance when I was that young, but I might have been particularly clumsy. Wink

  • i used to ice skate! with how fast your daughter's feet will grow, i wouldn't buy them at all. they're not cheap, and you can rent. also, i would suggest regular figure skates because she'll just have to re-learn if you switch her in another year or two.
  • Ditto jessa.  I only bought ice skates when my feet stopped growing.

  • I skated from age 5-18. Single blades, all the way. From what I recall, those in lessons with me that started on double blades had a really tough time making the switch over to regular skates. Just try to get some with some ankle support, not the super cheapies.
