Tell me about living/ teaching in Vegas area
Hi ladies! My husband is graduating from college in about 2 weeks with a degree in Accounting. We are considering Las Vegas as one area to relocate IF he can find a suitable job. It is near my family (in N. AZ) and we've liked it when we visited.
So, tell me about living in the Las Vegas area. What is the housing market like (I've looked on realtor.com, but I'd like the realistic scenario)? There's no tax, right? Also, I'm a teacher. If there are any teachers here, what is that like in Vegas?
Thanks in advance!
Re: Tell me about living/ teaching in Vegas area
The housing market here is way on the buyers side right now. Prices are really low. There are some great neighborhoods. I'd stay towards the "edges" of town and look into places like Summerlin, Mountains Edge, and Providence to get an idea of the type of new housing available here.
As for teaching, I believe there is a hiring freeze on right now. Our education budget in the state was recently cut by more than 70% and it has everyone scrambling to stay afloat. My school is currently running on less than $30,000 for the year.
As for the actual teaching part, I think it's the same as anywhere else. Schools, kids, busses, etc... Math, reading, writing, everything else. Let me know if you want to know anything more specific.
Good luck to you!
My husband and I have lived here since June of 2004, and we like everything but the constant sunshine. I know that sounds weird, but we are both from places where we had 4 seasons and SNOW! I'm a special education teacher, and I've never had any trouble here. It is a huge district though, which has its good points and bad points. I'm not sure what positions, if any they are hiring for right now. If you have any specific questions, I'd be happy to answer them for you!
