Re: micaela

  • hi!  the towns surrounding rochester are generally better than the city itself.  rochester is larger, dirtier and (in my opinion) doesn't have a good supply of shops and stores, nor does it have great restaurants or stellar schools overall.  the crime level is higher due to it being a larger, less expensive city and it's not a very beautiful place overall.  there's a pretty large low income population in rochester and this is a direct reflection of the ample cheap housing in the city.  this may be why you've found some great places online.  we have several friends who live there (including some people who come/came to this board) and you can definitely find decent locations... but overall it's not a beacon for families looking to move to a cozy, welcoming seacoast location.  i hope that helps!

i'm also sending you an email to the address i have on file - let me know if you don't get anything!

  • thank you yes i got your email and i sent one back thats what were looking for is a small cozy family kind of town so this is deff. not for us thanks agian
  • I live in Rochester and work here too - and even though Miceala is right about a lot of the things she mentioned - there ARE very nice neighborhoods in the city.  It is very large, and just by driving through the center of the city, it doesn't give you the whole picture.  I have been through neighborhoods where I have been surprised it was still in Rochester.

It is an affordable place to live, which is why we started our family here and bought a house - with hopes to move down the line...but it's not happening real soon. We have been here 4 years now.  We live in a small neighborhood and we have grown to like it here.  It's not IDEAL, but it's not horrible either.  Micaela tends to work with the lowest of income people of Rochester in her line of work, so I can see why she would have a bad taste for the place.

It's not a quaint little seacoast town like Stratham, Durham, Exeter - not by far - it does have a lot of low income people here.  But that's not all there is either. A lot of our friends have bought homes in town because it is affordable and a good place to start off. Dover is more desireable for a lot of people because it has a LOT of places in one area to shop - but for us, it's no biggie cause it's 10-15 mins away and we head there whenever we need to.

There's my two cents from someone who actually lives here.
