Moms: Was this my water breaking?

I got up this morning when my alarm went off to go wake my husband up (he feel asleep on the couch, I never bothered to go wake him in the middle of the night to come to bed haha), and as I was walking back to bed, I had a warm gush of something trickle down my leg. I tried smelling it, but I couldn't smell anything. It was enough of whatever it was to make both hands completely wet.

So I sat on the toilet and wiped, it had no color and no odor, of course I then had to pee, but my pee was bright yellow. Sorry for TMI, just don't want to call doctor and go up there and make myself look like an idiot!

Thanks

Re: Moms: Was this my water breaking?

  • It very well could be a leak of amniotic fluid, but you probably not going to know for sure until you have it checked out.  I think you need to give your Dr. a call and not worry about looking like an idiot : )

My water broke with my first child a few weeks early and I wasn't sure what it was either.  I really thought I was peeing on myself.  I'm glad I had it checked out because they really want you to have the baby within 24 hours because you are more susceptible to infection.

    Good luck!

  • I thought I pee'd myself too, but it was my water breaking. I had dd 30 min after water broke.
  • Sounds like your water broke!  If it were urine....you would be able to tell!!!  Go ahead and give your doc a call....or just go on over to the hospital and let them check you out!!

  • They had to break my water so I don't know firsthand what it's like...but I agree...I would call your doc.
  • Doctors have seen and heard it all. Be safe, call the Doctor like NOW if you haven't already.
  • Yep, I'd give them a call!  There is a simple test they can do to check to see if you have the amniotic fluid leaking!  Better safe than sorry at this point.  :)  Let us know what happens!

My water didn't break on it's own- my doctor broke it once I was in L&D but it gushed and gushed and GUSHED for what seemed like forever.  Every time I would move I would have more gush.  They kept having to put more towels under me.  I tell ya, you loose all modesty when you're pregnant.  ;)
  • I had the same experience as Stephanie, so mine didn't break on its own. But, I would go get checked out--especially if it was colorless and odorless. Even if you did tinkle on yourself--the drs and nurses have seen it a million times and say that its very common for people to come in b/c of that---so dont worry....better to be safe than sorry!
  • since I never was in labor at all I have no idea, but I would definitely go get it checked out.  It could be excess discharge (we all know how nasty our bodies are when we're pregnant) or it could be your fluids.

Keep us updated! and good luck!

  • I called the doctors office, they had me come in. I was checked and the test showed negative to am-fluid, but he said that since it happened a few hours before the test, and it wasn't a large amount that it could still possibly be am-fluid. So if I have anymore "leakage" to not clean myself up, and to head back. If it's after hours to call and meet at the hospital. But that there is no need to worry, and eveything was fine.

So pretty much a "just wait and see" like the rest of pregnancies. Haha, I haven't had anymore leakage, I'm relieved too, lil man needs to stay in there a little longer. Although it would be nice not having the feeling of someone doing jumping jacks in my ribs! lol

    Thanks everyone!

  • Maybe he will stay in and cook a little while longer!

I have a friend that peed her pants checking out at Walmart and thought it was her water breaking...she ran out of the store and left everything sitting in bags at the register.  It's a pretty hysterical story now, but she said it was NOT funny at the time!

  • glad everything is ok Ashleigh.  You don't have much longer!!!
  • Glad everything is ok.

I have a fear of being in public when my water breaks :)

  • I am so glad to hear everything is ok!  Baby needs a little more time...and mommy might too!
