I need ya'lls advice

So we are very close to moving into our house! Yay!.  Well we have a neighbor who has a poodle and a yorkie.  The problem I have is that they Always just lt these dogs out in the front yad with no supervision.  They just roam the street.  Everytime we're at the house these dogs run up to our house and raise hell at us.  They bark and bark and bark.  We've tried chasing them to get them out of the yard but they always come back.  I know they have to hear their dogs barking so I dont understand why they don't do something abou it.  The other day we were in our backyard working and these damn dogs slither throught the gate and come in our backyard barking at us.  I love dogs.  We have 2. The problem is I don't want there to be an issue with our dogs and theirs.  My dogs are good dogs, but I dont think they'll take to kindly to these dogs running up to the fence barking at them.  It won't take much for Sonny (our big dog) to to come over then fence.  I really want to talk to them but I don't want to come across as being a snob or a *itch or anything. I'm just not sure how to handle this situation. But their dogs are really driving us crazy.

  • I don't think I have any good advice for you, but you could approach the situation as you are wanting to protect their dogs.

Let them know that their dogs came into your back yard and you don't want your dog to harm them so they should keep them on a leash or something.

Sorry you are having to deal with this.  I would have the same problem talking to them.

  • I agree w/pp... approach it from an "I'm unsure how my large dog is going to react" POV. It's incredibly irresponsible of them to just let their dogs out like that, esp if they are coming up to people and barking at them- ridiculous! I work in the ICU at the vet school in AU, and I can't tell you how many dogs come in that have been run over or been in dog fights due to people like this.

To ease the "Keep your dogs leashed" message, you could bring over some brownies or something, however, if their dogs continue to roam around, I wouldn't feel bad about gathering them up and taking them to their veteriarian (assuming that they have a rabies tag, etc), and telling them that you "found them roaming the streets". I'm sure if that happens enough, the neighbors should get the message.

I would also like to add that IF your dog does attack these dogs, you may be liable for the vet bills which can get pretty pricey. PLEASE don't wait to talk with these people!
