Hi ladies! I am from Central NY and DH and I are going to be visiting Nashville in January. I wanted to see if you could give me the must see and must do places in Nashville, as well as must eat. I am also trying to come up with ideas for his birthday as we will be celebrating it there. We both love country music. Thanks so much in advance and we are really looking forward to visiting!
Re: Nashville info
here's my list I'm sure others can add to it.
lower broadway-*** tonks and suck
belle meade planataion/cheekwook if you are into that stuff
grand ole opry
opryland hotel-don't have to stay but the inside is amazing and you can walk through it.
downtown franklin-very cute little downtown with shopping and some good restaurants. if you are looking for a nice dinner downtown franklin has red pony which is good and little fancier and sol which is more authentic mexican.
Sol freaking rocks! i LOVE that restaurant. Shopping in Franklin is my favorite thing to do.
If you like country music, try to get opry tickets. I like country music, but have become a little jadded living here and found it totally hokey, but I want b/c my fav singer was there (Jewel) and it was definitely an experience.
Arrington Vineyards is just south of Franklin and everyone I know who has gone really likes it. Kix Brooks owns it.
Green Hills also has some great shopping, but can be really really congested.
Hillsboro Village (near Vandy and Belmont) is a cute little area of town.
If you like sushi, my favorite restaurant is Miyako in Brentwood and is awesome!
Basically, I'd recommend all of the places from the pps.
I would check out the Ryman for a show. It's a great place to see a concert. If you can't see a show, you can take a tour during the day. The Country Music Hall of Fame downtown is nice. They have a good little cafe in there for lunch, too (SoBro Grille).
For food, if you want a Nashville-type place, I'd check out Jack's BBQ downtown on Broadway or Loveless Cafe (which is about a 20 minute drive from downtown). The biscuits at Loveless are heavenly. The Pancake Pantry in Hillsboro Village is where everyone from out of town goes. It's worth a trip once, but it's not my favorite. I prefer Fido down the street for breakfast. Hillsboro Village is worth a stroll -- there are some cute shops and restaurants in that area.
For nice dinners, my favorite restaurants are Margot Cafe, City House, and Zola. Watermark in the Gulch is also very nice and offers a pretty view of downtown.
For more casual restaurants - Bricktops and Boscos are good choices.
Other sights - Belle Meade Plantation, Cheekwood, downtown Franklin, the zoo, and The Hermitage (Andrew Jackson's home). Obviously, if you're not into history or home tours, skip the Hermitage and Belle Meade. :-)
If you are a fan of country music, you should check out a showcase at The Bluebird. Don't go on a Monday or Tuesday as that is when they have open calls & you will hear some pretty hideous people. The best time to go to The Bluebird is on the weekend. Just a tip though....this is a serious music venue, so this is not a place you can go & talk during the performances....and your cell phone must be off or on vibrate...you will be asked to leave otherwise. You can hear some great grass-roots singers & songwriters there.
Also, 3rd & Lindsley is a great place that has showcases all the time. This is a much more relaxed atmosphere. They are always having great artists play there.
?Alot of people like The Stage. That is a fun place to go, but it gets very crowded. It is hit-or-miss on the music there. It is mostly cover bands....some are pretty decent & some are just downright bad. But...it is fun if you are into the bar scene. Also on that same strip is Second Fiddle, Legend's Corner (which I really like) & Tootsie's. All of those will be very crowded.
Printer's Alley has a very fun karaokie bar there called Miss Kelly's. There is also a club there called Bourbon Street Blues & Boogie Bar....this is a fun place & they have some great blues bands play there.
I can't tell you anything about shopping since I hate to shop. Everyone says that Green Hills is the place to go, but everything in that mall is so expensive. The only places I like to go are the little antique stores in & around Franklin.
Arrington Vineyards is pretty, but everytime I have tried to go, everyone was very rude & not helpful at all. It is a great place to go for a picnic, but I was not impressed with the place or their wine.
You should go to the Opryland Hotel if you will be here around Christmas. It is beautiful & they have a lot of decorations up. There is also an ice exhibition featuring The Grinch. It's really cool.?
