"Maybe your karma is bad" *vent*

was wha a CW said when someone else commented on one of my duties. One of my newest job duties is liasing between our staff and our remote tech people. This was added to my regular duties on Monday, and so far it taken over around 70% of my workload.

The original comment was something like: "Are you ready for the weekend Nicole? You must be sooo tired of having everyone bug you about their computer issues." It was said in a nice(almost concerned) way, and I laughed and responded in a by saying that it's just part of my job. And I commented on how it's just the first week of the new system and I'm sure things will balance out once the kinks are ironed out. This all happened in a large group meeting in my boss' office. So there was a lot of chatter going on, but this one CW just really irked me when she said, looking me straight in the eyes with an evil little smikr: "Maybe your karma's bad". Then a conversation ensued about how I 'deserve' the extra work since I was on maternity leave and I have some catching up to do. WTH?!?!?!!? It's not really extra work, and I've been slammed since I returned to work in August.

When the karma comment was made, I just looked at her and said: "No CW, I don't think that's the case. I don't subscribe to that belief".  When the maternity leave comment was made, I responded with: "Maternity leave was no vacation! That was a 24 hour a day job with little or no repreve." Only one person(and not even my boss!) came to my defense by agreeing with me and further explained the working mom thing.

To further complicate things, I was physically being pushed into a corner. As my boss' office was filling with people and their chairs for a video conference I ended up trapped in a corner. LOL. Everytime I would try to move closer to the door, someone else would block me in.

It was all like one of those nightmare sequences on t.v. or in movies where the "dreamer" is in the middle of a circle(through a fisheye lens) and everyone is pointing and laughing. I just want to go home now. On the upside, my boss said I look nice today...which is something I don't think I've ever heard her say to anyone.

It was all weird, thanks for letting me air it out.

  • wow...sorry that was so long. I guess I was sorting through it all while I was typing. It probably doesn't make much sense. LOL.
  • Your coworkers are a bunch of A-holes! Seriously, you're being punished for taking maternity leave? It sounds like you work with a bunch of bitter hags.
  • Wow, RUDE! At least you said something.  I don't understand how people can't empathize with working mothers.  Was the one person who stood up for you the only other person there with children?

Jenn: and I've been back from ML for exactly 4 months. It's not like I just got back. geeeez. Not that anyone should ever penalized for taking maternity leave in the first place.

Karissa, no! Can you believe it? 4 other people in the group have kids.

She has 2 teen girls though.

  • (((HUGS)))  I have evil co-workers.  Just give Allison a big hug and kiss when you get home and know that it is no karma, you have the best job, just you don't get paid in $$$.
  • F* her! Tell her to say it again, only this time invite the LA girls to join your meeting.

  • Tell her to take her "karma" and shove it up her a$$.
  • Jobs can be a big a** whole when you take maternity leave. Just blow out the bad air and keep your head up and Know your baby is worth every bit of time off.
