Any recomendations for ski resort in North Carolina?

I asked this on the travel board but wanted to see if anyone on the local board have traveled to the NC area to ski also. I am trying to plan a spur of the moment trip for my husband and I for January. We want to try something different and this would be our first time skiing. Anyone familiar with any ski lodges in NC? Any tips or suggestions are welcome. Thanks

ok, i have never been skiing in NC, but my in-laws just moved there a yr ago, and went skiing at a place called maggie valley (they brought us a magnet back). they really didn't say much about it, but i know they had a lot of fun. they live in charlotte, nc, so i can only assume that it is some where near there. here is the link for the website

I've been to Ski Beech, Sugar Mountain and Appalachian Ski Mountain.  You would probably like Beech or Sugar better than App.  We never stayed at the resorts because we lived in NC so we always stayed with friends or drove back home.

All the resorts that I mentioned are in the Boone/Blowing Rock area : )

Maggie Valley is really pretty. I've never skid there, but we used to vacation there a lot when I was younger.

I second Beech Mountain.  I've been skiing there and also there during the summer.  Absolutely beautiful scenery and wonderful people.
