Not trying to lecture but alcohol and early pregnancy does have risks!!!

-->
http://www.oasas.state.ny.us/fasd/faq.cfm

I have read many similar research reports during a couple of college social work courses and I don?t mean to lecture but the ease of the "drink till its pink" mantra is worrisome because the first few weeks are so critical to the development of the nervous system.

May not be implanted with umbilical chord but toxic chemical can still be shared.

Also, if many of us are taking a while to conceive, wouldn?t you want to increase your odds for the better?  Alcohol may interfere with the implantation!  I can understand have a few cocktail pre O but during 2WW... it?s just too much to risk.  Wouldn't it be worth it to sacrifice those 2 weeks to give the potential life the best start possible?

...just my thoughts on the topic.

I think the idea behind "drink till it's pink" is not to consume extreme amounts of alcohol.  I take it to mean it's okay to have a glass of wine a couple times in the two week wait.  Abstaining from everything that could potentially be harmful became a reminder and a source of stress for me.

exactly and well Many medical professionals feel it is even safe to drink the occassional glass of red wine while pregnant.

I don't think anyone on here is binge drinking while TTC, but it doesn't hurt to live normally throughout the process.  People get pregnant all the time with out charting, green tea, preseed, OPK's, and all of the other crap that we've introduced into our lives and they never once stop their normal routines.  It's good to take conception seriously, but come on.

why does it have to be one extreme or another... I wasnt saying that we can't have a life until we conceive.  But we can be reasonable especially during the 2WW, right?

Even a glass or two has not been proven to be safe.  And I would say abstaining from alcohol and possibly a few other things is a far cry from putting yourself in a bubble.  Especially when you are potentially putting your fetus at risk.  There is no way to know exactly when implantation occurs either - you can estimate - but you can't know exactly.

p.s. I used to work for OASAS, the NY State Department you took those facts from, and OASAS funds and monitors social programs for former crackheads, drunks and some of the worst forms of addiction.  The people they evaluate aren't every day people.  They are people who have taken vices to an extreme.

I think the stress of TTC is enough without worrying about what you're eating and drinking especially if you've been trying for a while....and not to mention if you drinking that much that you need to worry about it...you should be in AA and not trying to make a baby :)

Nowhere in that article was it mentioned that drinking during the 2ww was dangerous.  It specifically states that the risk is with the shared umbilical cord which occurs after you have a +HPT.  Also, it mentions that you should get drinking under control(not abstain) prior to pregnancy.  That statement alone makes this sound like the information is focused on people who have alcohol related problems - not someone enjoying a nice glass of wine with dinner.

You can have your opinions, but if you cite a reference make sure that it backs up your claim.

I am now REALLY regretting the 1/2 glass of wine and 1/2 glass of sangria I had at my party last night.  Should I get my BFP tomorrow it will mean I am already an abusive parent and that my child will be born sick.  Oh my what have I done????

(this is what this post is saying about people like me, basically)

How long have you both been TTC?? Maybe the first 2 months I felt this way, but by cycle 6 I pretty much stopped putting my life on hold to be disappointed over and over again!!!!

So, in the end, the ladies who abstain from all alcohol in the 2ww have not changed their minds.  The ladies who drink in moderation have not changed their minds.  It seems to me that (especially being the self-selected group that takes TTC seriously enough to be on this forum in the first place) everyone here has thought through this already, and chosen whether or not to abstain based on their own reasons. :)

I don't know if this is quite the same...but it may be...I take a couple prescription meds that I know I won't be able to take once I am KU. When I talked to my GYN/OB about TTC she told me to continue to take them until I get a BFP. So, I guess I suck, too. She said no sense in stopping before there's a reason to.

HOLY SH!T  are you all kidding me?!?  This will be my last post on this... I was not judging or lecturing or accusing. Just putting info out there.

Damn, yeah I suck because I am new to TTC and have a differing take on this.  I was not judging on who is a better mother or any crap like that.  No one is perfect nor can we live in a bubble... but then again I was not suggesting that either.  Please don't read more into the actual words in my OP.  Yeah, I am bad too because I don?t eat all organic either!   WE DO THE BEST WE CAN

Demonize me all you want for having a differing stance.  There was no meanness meant.  It?s a free country and I just was saying what was on my mind.

    There, done.

So,in the end, the ladies who abstain from all alcohol in the 2ww have notchanged their minds. ?The ladies who drink in moderation have notchanged their minds. ?It seems to me that (especially being theself-selected group that takes TTC seriously enough to be on this forumin the first place) everyone here has thought through this already, andchosen whether or not to abstain based on their own reasons. :)

Nowhere in that article was it mentioned that drinking during the2ww was dangerous.? It specifically states that the risk is with theshared umbilical cord which occurs after you have a +HPT.? Also, itmentions that you should get drinking under control(not abstain) priorto pregnancy.? That statement alone makes this sound like theinformation is focused on people who have alcohol related problems -not someone enjoying a nice glass of wine with dinner.?

You can have your opinions, but if you cite a reference make sure that it backs up your claim. ??

    Amen my sista!

Idon't know if this is quite the same...but it may be...I take a coupleprescription meds that I know I won't be able to take once I am KU.When I talked to my GYN/OB about TTC she told me to continue to takethem until I get a BFP. So, I guess I suck, too. She said no sense instopping before there's a reason to.

HOLYSH!T? are you all kidding me?!?? This will be my last post on this... Iwas not judging or lecturing or accusing. Just putting info out there.

Damn, yeah I suck because I am new to TTC and have a differing take on this.?I was not judging on who is a better mother or any crap like that.? Noone is perfect nor can we live in a bubble... but then again I was notsuggesting that either.? Please don't read more into the actual wordsin my OP.? Yeah, I am bad too because I don?t eat all organic either!??WE DO THE BEST WE CAN

Demonize me all you want for having adiffering stance.? There was no meanness meant.? It?s a free countryand I just was saying what was on my mind.

    There, done.
