party sales -what do you think?

What do you ladies think of party sales, like Pampered Chef or candle parties or whatever?

I just went to a Pampered Chef hosted by a friend's mom (my friend is a consultant) and not a lot of people showed up, so I kind of feel obligated to order something, although it's not like I desperately need an offset spreader or anything. I just feel sort of bad for my friend, b/c she does the consulting thing to make a little extra money here and there -she does maybe 4 or  5 parties a year, and usually for her mom's friends or inlaws or whatnot. I've been to a few parties that are hosted by the turbo-consultants who do it as their full-time job, and their sales pitch makes it sound so easy... but then, I've been to so many Pampered Chef locally that I'm sure the area is saturated with either consultants or people who have bought enough of the stuff that it would be hard to make any money on it... which is why I wonder why my freind still does it.

I guess I had no specific q or anything about the whole topic, it's just been on my mind over the weekend.

Re: party sales -what do you think?

  • I work in this industry as a part timer, mainly just for fun though. The industry you choose to sell from can make a difference as well and also the crowd that is brought in.

I have done a party with 25 girls and made a whopping $20.00 once before and the upside to it was free alcohol, food and strippers. On the other hand I have done a party with 7 girls, made $250, and spent the night with my girls. It just depends on the people and if they are really interested.

My coach she does this mainly for a living and brings home almost $5000.00 a month. She knows that from me she will not get this and I only want to do it to educate and have fun. But, this is what she does and she does it well.

  • i really enjoy going to the candle parties. recently i went to a few cookie lee parties, i went because my friend hosted them and only purchased something at the 1st party.  i was really turned off because the consultant didnt give a presentation, so i didnt think she deserved my money.

i'm currently looking for a party lite rep to purchase some candles, love that stuff!

  • I never feel obligated to buy, but I always do. I seem to always find something I need or like. Cookie Lee doesn't do presentations. I have a few things from them. PartyLite I have a ton of candles that are still in boxes.

    Don't feel obligated!

(deezsgirl...here's my PartyLite consultant: Amber Berry candle.dreams@verizon.net , tell her Monika Whiteley referred you)

  • I sold Pampered Chef as a side job for awhile and there just wasn't a lot of money in it. It was just hit or miss and I gave up on it after 10 months. My aunt is one of the head reps for the area though. She's top tier and is always winning prizes and expensive vacations. The real money is in the recruiting of new reps and not in the actual product sales.
