It's officials - Holidays at home!

We got our flights yesterday! California here we come!! :-)  I'm SOOOO excited!  I haven't spent a holiday at home in 3 years.  K's sisters got her a free flight and were able to get me a flight out there. I used credit card points to get a flight back so the entire travel cost was only $80!! And, the dogs will be able to stay at home because a friend is going to live there while we're away.  It all worked out so perfectly!

My brother is going to pick us up from the airport and then drive us to my parents house to surprise them.  I want to make the surprise special, here are a few of the ideas, let me know what you think:

1) Just show up at the door - it'll be surprise enough

2) Show up with a pre-made Christmas dinner and tell them we're celebrating early (b/c my brother has to work on Christmas but my parents don't know that yet)

3) Have my brother arrange for them to meet at restaurant and we'll surprise them by already being at the table

Other ideas??

  • thats awesome!! your parents are goign to be so excited :)

i vote #2 - if your brother isnt going to be around on Christmas, he should get the chance to have a nice dinner at home, and being at home during the holidays is just cozier!

  • yay! that's awesome! how long are you going to be able to stay?

i like the idea of having dinner early so your brother can celebrate with you. i'd want to get there asap, so i wouldn't want to take the time to actually make dinner ahead of time--or would you buy it somewhere? are your parents the kind of people who will have bought everything for dinner early? c's are, so that plan wouldn't work at all for us without leaving them with a ton of extra food, plus her mom really enjoys doing the cooking and getting everything together. i'm not sure exactly how i would work that option, but it's my favorite of the three. maybe i'd just show up with a pie and ice cream or something? and a bow on my head.

lol!  I was actually thinking of wearing my Mrs. Claus outfit and dressing K like an elf! hehehe!  As for food I'm thinking we can pick up a honey baked ham and pre-made stuff at the store. My mom will have probably bought some Xmas food, but we're going to show up Monday, not on Xmas day so that shouldn't be a problem.

oh, nice! i'd love to see a picture of that! Big Smile

if you're getting there that early, i'd definitely go with the dinner. you'll have plenty of time to make sure your parents aren't stuck with tons of leftovers! Wink

  • Yay for California! I'm so glad you guys get to go out there.

I vote #2... it will be nice to have your Christmas dinner with the whole family, plus I'm sure your mom will like the break from cooking it!
