Anyone live/have lived in a townhouse?

We are looking around at housing and I was just wondering if any of you have lived/currently live in a townhouse?   If you have, please share any pros/cons! TIA

We are just looking for a starter place, not something to live in for 30 years :)

Re: Anyone live/have lived in a townhouse?

  • I currently live in a townhome! I LOVE it! All our neighbors are great! We decided to buy a townhome because we weren't quite sure where in North Alabama we wanted to live yet. Spring of this year we will have been in it for two years and I wouldn't change it for anything! For us it is a perfect starter home because there is very little maintenance to the house. We don't have to spend alot of our time on the yard because there isn't one at all! We plan on living there about 4 or 5 years total then maybe building after that! It has saved us alot of money by buying it! I would recommend a townhome to anyone!

I don't really have any cons except that you dont' have a backyard to entertain in. But our living room and kitchen is so big that we dont' really need the backyard!

Any other questions let me know!

  • Yep!  Pros would be that most are new - new appliances, new flooring, etc. it always good.  Usually they have just enough space for a small family.

My biggest con would be that some are hard to sell.  Because there are so many and there are constantly new ones being constructed, you could run into some problems when you do decide to sell!

  • I have lived in houses, condos, townhouses, small houses, etc.  ha.  That's funny, guess it shows how old I am!!!

My preference is a small house or house any day over a condo or townhouse but I will say you have to weigh YOUR personal pros and cons - what are you willing to give up, what can't you live without?  How long will you be there?

Townhouses and condos are VERY hard to sell.  Now in AU they are going up like crazy!!!!  So I'm not sure about the market w/them here.  Plus, it's hit or miss w/the students and what parents will buy/rent, etc.

You can buy our house.  LMAO.

Anyways, just make sure you weigh everything - you look at everything.

    HTH!!!
