DH survived the layoffs!

DH's company has been in the process of laying off over 4,000 employees. They are located in Cali & only have a small office here, and a lot of the TN employees were laid-off. IT is the only safe job there, but even a couple of those guys were let go. We had been waiting anxiously for this day for about 2 months not knowing exactly what would happen. So.... he is safe. But, even if he were not, they gave out some really great severance packages.

Re: DH survived the layoffs!

  • you must be relieved. I hate that DH's company keeps doing layoffs it makes me nervous. He laid off someone last March and they still haven't found anything
  • That's good news! Prayers for all those that weren't so lucky.

  • Well....I know the guy that was laid-off. He is a great guy & was very loyal to the company. His IT job was a bit expendable though. He took it really well. He also has a photography business on the side. He's the one who did my engagement pictures. It really sucks though about their timing for this. And, I am still mad that they had a huge Christmas party that costed a couple million dollars, but were laying people off. They just have a different mind-set there.
  • FWIW, companies often have extra money at the end of the year that they want to quickly get rid of to avoid paying taxes on it.  If they "saved" said money to pay salaries in 2009, they'd still end up having to pay taxes on it, etc. so you can't really look at it the same way, even though, on the outside, it does seem like a slap in the face to those who were sadly laid off.  It's really apples and oranges though.
