Today is call in gay day. Anyone participate? I didn't. It's only my 3rd week on the job and I just don't feel that would have been appropriate. If it was my old job and I'd been there 2 years I would have called in.

Re: Did anyone call in gay?
i havent even heard about it? whats the concept?
at first blush it seems almost offensive - being gay isnt an illness - but i'm sure there is more to it

i agree, i'm not thrilled about the name. from what i understand it's supposed to be a full-on economic boycott to emphasize the impact gays and lesbians have on the economy and what would happen if we weren't a part of it as employees or as consumers. calling off gay was only part of it.
As proven by "day without a Mexican" these boycott days don't work. I think it will be interesting to see who participated and if it even hits the news.
Neither of us called in "Gay" either. So few people pay attention to what's going on in the news that the chances of an actual impact were pretty slim. Besides, what's the point? In this bad economic climate, why put your job in danger? It's better to be EMPLOYED and fighting for more rights than not..right?
But I didn't work very hard...does that count? ha ha!
I would only be making a statement to the parents whose kids I watch - and we are friendly with them, so it would have been pointless.
I wasn't too enthusiastic about it anyway because it wasn't very well organized. The only way that this would have any hope of making a large statement would have been for it to be well planned and publicized.
