XP: Kinda random NO Christmas question

My mom has decided that she and my dad are going to New Orleans for Christmas next year, and invited us along. She did this once when she was 12 and had a blast.

So tell me, what are some of the things to do around Christmas time, especially in a post-Katrina New Orleans? Mom mentioned taking the trolley to see decorated homes and some fancy decorated hotels, but again, this was back in 1955...

  • Celebration in the Oaks, the Ritz Hotel has a huge gingerbread house, Christmas on Fulton St (bands, fake snow, pics with Santa), you can ride the street car up and down St Charles Ave to see the beautiful homes. Pretty much everything in the tourist areas is back up and running. You would never even notice Katrina occured in the French Quarter, Uptown, Garden District, etc.
