~Catholic Moms~

At what age should you have your child baptized? The last baptismal I went to was my brothers almost 20 years ago.  I can't remember exactly how old he was. TIA!

Re: ~Catholic Moms~

  • I think it's whenever you want to and are ready.  I wanted to baptize Isabella before the year's end, but it's not going to happen.  We had a hard time choosing her Godparents and now that we have chosen them we need to get together and discuss the details, dates, etc.  It looks like we'll be baptizing her in early February so she'll be a little over 8 months. HTH
  • We had Katie baptized in April...so she was 5 and a half months.
  • We had Hanna baptized when she was 4 months.  I think alot of it depends on when you have the time (the parents and godparentsh ave to attend a class) and feel up to it.
  • Mia was baptized when she was 6 months old. I read on the orange county diocese website that they suggest by their second month- that was not an option for us! We were not ready for it at that time! I agree with PP, whenever your ready to baptize your child.

  • I think it's up to you...Jos was 4 mo and Nat was 9 mo.  We had private ceremonies done at my parent's parish...as opposed to a group baptism at a mass at Easter or something similar.  HTH

Are you thinking of a church here or in LV?

  • Definitely here. Getting pregnant has made me realize that this is our home now, as much as I miss Vegas.
  • Have you joined a parish?  Just asking cuz you may want to call and ask about bapitsm classes, fees and requirements.  There's usually a class that parents and god parents need to attend...so check as to when those are available (month, or only occassionally thru-out the year).  And also check when they offer baptisms.  Some wait and do everyone at Easter.  Some offer privates for an additional fee, so you can have it anytime you want.  HTH

  • We've joined Our Lady of Grace. I once read in the bulletin that there are classes and that godparents are encouraged to attend also.  But there was no mention of the age of the child.
  • We had Jacob baptized just before he was 4 mos old. ?My SIL just did my nephew for his 2nd b-day.

It just depends on when you are ready and how important it is for you! ?My mom did my sis when she was 5.?

  • Julian was 8 months.
  • Whenever you're ready... I think most people do it around 3 or 4 months old. DD was baptized at 7 months old, but that's because she was baptized in Brazil where DH is from (his sister and brother are her godparents) so we had to wait until we flew there for her to be baptized.
