New Nestie and New to South Carolina (Greenville)

Hi Ladies,

DH and I just recently moved to Greenville from MD for my husbands job. I do not know a single person in this city and am looking for some ideas of how/where I could go about meeting some  :)

I used the knot extensively when we were planning our wedding and the girlks were always so helpful so I thought I would come over here to see if you had any suggestions.  I am not working yet and am hopeful that when i begin a new job i will be able to meet some new people but until that time I am open to any ideas :)

Thanks!  Looking forward to posting here more often and getting to know you!

Mandy

Re: New Nestie and New to South Carolina (Greenville)

  • Hi Mandy!!!

Welcome to Greenville!! My DH and I have lived here for a year and a 1/2 and I can tell you that, in addition to just getting out and meeting neighbors and etc, the nest-specifically the SC Board-is a GREAT way to meet/get to know some wonderful ladies!!!

Once the rain lets up, Downtown is a wonderful place to just wander-there's SOOO much to do there-whether you're looking to go out to dinner or just window shop, or pretty much anything else. It's a very laid back, very eclectic part of town.

What part of Greenville are you in?? MrsZ, LILAngel, and I (Vanessa, Tiffany, and Meghan) are in Simpsonville. It's a great part of town!!!

I hope you are enjoying the area!! BTW-keep an eye on this board-we're trying to get a post-holiday get-together planned-and we'd love to have you join us!!!!

    Big Smile

  • Welcome to SC! I live in the columbia area, so i am about an hour or so away. I hope you will enjoy SC! Greenville is really nice, good place to be since it is growing so much, a lot of my college friends have moved up there for jobs.
  • Thanks so much for the response!  I am really looking forward to getting settled in here.

Currently we are just renting a home short term while our home in MD sells and while we get to know the area and find the neighborhood that we really want to live in.

The home we are renting is in Simpsonville,  unfortunately most of the neighbors are retired so there are not really many people in my neighborhood that are in our demographic.  None the less we are looking forward to meeting new people soon!

I don't think we are going to stay in this area as it is a bit of a commute for my DH's job... but we are still exploring :)

I would love to be included in a GTG and will keep checking this board for any info.

Thanks for our help.  This move has been tough and I am looking forwarded to meeting some people and helping to make the adjustment more smooth! We are going to head downtown tonight for dinner and drinks!  I can't wait.

    Mandy

  • Welcome!  Too bad you didn't post last week, you could have stopped by my house this weekend I had an open-house jewelry party!

Anyway we were supposed to have a GTG last week but it was being held at the home of a partylite sales person and he had a family emergency and had to cancel.

Megan (MrsD07) and I had mentioned maybe trying to get something together for January.  What's your schedule like?

Oh and BTW I've only been here a year and a couple months so we are still learning about the are etc too.

  •  Hi Mrs Z!

I didn't come down here officially until Sunday so I would have been to late for the jewelry party!  :(

I am definitely on board for a get together in January.  I am not working right now... so my schedule is open :)

I can't wait till we find a neighborhood we want to buy a home in!  Then hopefully we will have some great neighbors!

  • What part of town does your DH work in and where in Simpsonville is your current place?

  • He works in Peidmont... we are living off woodruff road on highway 14 I think?  It is about 2 miles down...

We were looking in a neighborhood called Acadia... but it is a bit rural for me lol I am going to have to shake this city girl thing I have going on  though!!! :)

We love downtown but I want a newer home... I just want to be close to resturants and shopping... I also want a nice neighborhood, preferably with a pool and club house...

Not sure if such a thing exsists... well it does but only if your willing to pay at least half a million dollars for it!

  • I'm totally in the same boat.  We moved here from Fairfax, VA.  We found a neighborhood we loved which is out way farther than I thought I would ever live, but the price was right, the neighbors were great, and it's close enough I don't feel like I'm totally disconnected from the world.

I live in Windsor Forest in 5 Forks. To put it in perspective, I live 8 minutes from the WalMart on Woodruff road, and only 2 minutes from the grocery stores and shops and restaurants at 5 Forks.

Anyway, take some time to learn the area and find exactly what areas of town you like.  We don't have kids and don't plan to for a while (maybe 5 years?) but we still wanted to be in a good school district, so being in Simpsonville was a "must" for us as far as education goes.  There are tons of things to consider when you buy.  Our neighborhood has a pool but not a clubhouse.  There are some nice neighborhoods out this way with pools and clubhouses though that don't run half a mil.   You may want to venture out this way and see what you think!

  • Thank you for your help!

We drove around all weekend and saw so many neighborhoods.  DH and I found a few we really loved, it is hard because now i think that we have seen too many LOL.  But we are taking our time because we really want to make sure we find the best place for us.

I will let you know where we finally decide!  right now we found a new neighborhood called Acadia that we love as well as an area around Pelhem road.  ( I am still keeping my fingers crossed for Agusta road if I can get my hubby off the community pool train ;)

  • Hi!  I am new to the board, but not to SC!  I was born and raised her (28 now) - you would not believe how much the area has changed in the last 10-15 years!

I look forward to getting to know all of you ladies!  I am so happy to see this SC board is active!
