I watched it for the first time with my dad last night. Since my boss isn't here I've been catching up on past episodes. I've got tears in my eyes. I think this is one of the best shows they have ever had on tv.
It got me thinking about my life and what good deeds i've done. Of course i'm not a millionaire but I try to do good things when I can. Of course I donate to the salvation army during Christmas and little things like that. One of the things that I've done thats really brought the sincere feel good to my heart was after our wedding. I told my dad the only thing that I really wanted him to do for after the wedding was take all the flowers to the nursing home where my mom had stayed. It wasn't for the nursing home itself, but for all the patients that were there. I knew first hand that many of those people had no family or had family that just didn't care ( or had forgotten about them). Every day I went there it broke my heart. They were all so nice and just wanted a friend. So I really hope the flowers were able to bring a smile to their faces.
Have ya'll ever done anything that just made you feel really good inside?
Re: Have ya'll ever watched that Secret Millionaire show?
we watched it for the first time last night and i cried at the end. You could tell that hearing those stories really touched him. "G" had a good story too...coming from nothing and making a company that's worth millions.
it probably doesn't sound like that big of a deal but there's this elderly man that's a transit driver and everytime i'm on his bus i talk to him (today i found out dr's gave him a 10% chance of living a year or 2 ago) and i try to talk to some of the other drivers. that job just seems so boring and i figure if i can talk to them for the few minutes i'm on the bus then at least it helps break of the monotony of their day
Blog!
I used to volunteer at Camp Smile-A-Smile which is a summer camp for children with cancer. It was really moving. It is the only time that a lot of those children ever get to be like normal kids. One year I had a four year girl with brain cancer than wanted to learn to swim. I spent all week trying to teach her how to swim. finally on the last day she swam for 30 seconds!! Her face was beaming when she got out of the water. I want to get certified in chemo so I can donate my time to be a nurse there in the summer.
We also had a patient that had been in our unit for a couple of weeks and we knew it was his birthday so we made him a cake and snuch his entire family (like 30 people) in to sing Happy birthday to him. He passed away 3 months later and his family came back and told us that was the first time in 5 years their entire family was together.
I am going to have to watch this show. When does it come on?
I think it comes on on Wen. What a great story. I think it's the little things that count.
We donated our flowers from the reception/wedding to hospice patients. The organization even came and picked it up. The only thing I've experienced in person, though is when I've been on mission trips.... giving free medicine and glasses to the people at no cost. One lady was jumping up and down and repeating "I can see. I can see." We just take so much forgranted.
